The best advice for the UL (or similar mark) is to contact the product certifier directly. The organizations like UL/CSA/FM and others will require quite a bit of documentation. Then the product will be tested. The testing is destructive typically. If the product passes, it can receive the UL (if UL is the one used) mark and be listed. Then the product will go onto a periodic retest schedule, and the manufacturing facility will be put on an audit scheme (typically quarterly) by the product certifier's accredited inspection body. If the manufacturing facility is ISO 9K registered, some consideration MAY be granted for that, but it DOES NOT REPLACE the product certifier's inspections.

Hope this helps a bit.
