Since you all talked me out of consulting as a way of life maybe some of you know of people or companies looking for a Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, or CMM Programmer/Operator in the Salt Lake City, Utah area.
Any leads would be more than appreciated. I have my resume in to several places out there currently which I am following. I do not need relocation costs but will need insurance imeadiatly. I can start anytime.
Thanks for any help,
Mark

MarkRe: insurance - did you exhaust COBRA?
COBRA - Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985, which among other things established the health care continuation requirements that are found in ERISA, the Code and the PHSA. COBRA requires that if an employee or other “qualified beneficiary” loses employer-provided health coverage due to termination of employment or another specified triggering event, the group health plan must offer continued health care coverage to the qualified beneficiary. The qualified beneficiary may be required to pay the full cost for the coverage. This ‘COBRA Coverage” has limited duration. In most cases, the maximum COBRA period is 18 or 36 months from the date of the qualifying event.

My curent employer is not required due to its size and therefor does not offer COBRA.

I don't know of any current openings, but I'll keep my ears open...

There are some current openings (not in Salt Lake City though) that I'm aware of that start out around $118,000 + bonus's, they happen to be with Brown & Root. The big problem is they're all in a country that starts with "I".
I turned them down when they came recruiting...I've had enough excitement in my life!

Is the pay so high because of IMDs, insurgents and kidnappings that are happening in the area? or is it just a really good company to work for?

Ha, ha! Very funny Al
The starting pay is taking a few things into consideration such as the existing environmental hazards (falling schrapnel with occasional loud noises) the cultural difficulties (everyone is hated equally) and living conditions (the water may not always run but you will with the proper enticement).
Quite honestly overseas employment has always been at a higher earning rate than here in the states with the added benefit of no taxes. From what I was told the bonus money can kick the earning to $150,000 or better. The company is a very good one with a good solid track record. As with all contractors there may have been a couple pieces of negative news, even Lockheed, Grumman, ITT and Boeing have had negative press in the past.
You may want to look that way if you're inclined to do so.

Hi All,
Randy, I just got offered a job in Saudi for about the same money but not in QA more like IED and EOD etc. They ahd a bsae rate of $US 100K then when you visited the counttry starting with 'I' you got a bonus. If you kept your head about you. I told themn I wasn't interseted but that hasn't stopped them sending me more emails.
I was supposed to work for them in '90 but a little skirmish broke out and they stopped recruiting for a while.
