View Full Version : What does "This applies equally to purchased product" mean? TS 16949 clause 8.3.4

TS clause 8.3.4 Customer Wiaver states that "This applies equally to purchased product". Can anybody help explain what does it mean?

Does it mean when the purchased product is out of the original spec,
1. Our supplier need to follow requirements stated in this clause (e.g. obtain deviation permit from us, identify the shipping container, etc.) OR
2. We need to inform our customer that we have used the purchased material which is out the original spec (even though this does not affect the final product performance) and obtain approval from the customer and identify the shipping container?

Thanks

Welcome to the Cove LooiYL,

I am sure one of the regulars can give us a technical answer on this but IMHO I think the requirement applies to both - just the way you stated.

One thing about the wording of 16949 is that they have taken the old QS confusion out of the document. When they say Organization, they mean you (the company with TS16949). When they say Customer, they mean your customer and when they say Supplier, they mean your supplier.

I hope this helps.

The key wording is in the 1st para, " . . . . . whenever the product or manufacturing process is different from that which is currently approved."

The waiver procedure applies to your supplieras well as to your organization. You, the organization must agree with your supplier request prior to submitting to your customer.
Whether it effects the final product or not has no affect on the reporting of the nonconformance to your customer.
