Attaching a file to a post in a thread is easy once you know where the 'box' to do it is.

You can attach up to five (5) files in any individual post.

The total space per file can not exceed 2.8 megabytes in size.

The key to attaching a file is to get into the posting 'screen'. You do this by: Starting a new thread
Replying in a thread
To Start a New Thread (http://elsmar.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=8900), you must be in a forum listing. You can not Start a New Thread from within a thread. When you are in a forum listing, you will see this icon http://Elsmar.com/Forums/images/buttons/newthread.gif (http://elsmar.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=8900) near the top and near the bottom of every forum listing page.

This is a posting (also used for editing) 'screen' with the basic posting box. It is the box you will see when you Start a New Thread. It is the same screen you will see when you Reply http://Elsmar.com/Forums/images/buttons/reply.gifto a post from within a thread. Either way - Starting a New Thread or Replying within a new thread, you will see the same basic screen.

What you may not notice is there are more 'Options' when you Reply in a thread and when you Start a New Thread. But - You have to scroll down to see these options.

When you click the Manage Attachment button, a small popup will appear. Most popup blockers will not block this popup because it is a 'requested' popup, but if you don't get the Manage Attachments popup box your popup blocker may be interfering with it.

Once this popup comes up, you click the Browse button and navigate to the file on your computer which you want to upload. Double clicking the file name should 'load' it in the Browse box and return you to the Manage Attachments popup. If you want to upload more than one file, do the same thing with another 'Browse' box. You can upload a total of 5 files at one time.

Click Upload. Now the file(s) should start uploading to the forum. Remember, you are Uploading a file. The bigger the file, and the slower your connection, the longer it will take. For example, a 2 megabyte file will not upload 'instantly'.

When the upload is complete, you should see something like this:

When you see this with the file name, you know you file has been uploaded and you can Close the Manage Attachment box.

If you have problems or questions about how to Attach a file to a post, feel free to Reply in this thread.

What is the total combined size? Can I attach five 3MB files for a total of 15MB? I had large(>10mb) files that I had wanted to attach as a Split Zip file, but I had thought that I couldn't.

These are the current settings for file sizes:

You can attach 5 zip files each of which has to be 3 megabytes or less. I *can* set a limit for total space for all 5 files, but haven't done that. I have plenty of disk space so it's not an issue.

Usually I face the problem while doing Attachment. I have checked the file size and I know all the time it is within the limit as prescribed. Even though I got error message. What may the probable cause?

Now I started to send my mail reply attached with files to whom it is required. I can send (E-mail) to my files to Marc also requesting for attachment on Forum board.

Regards,

Manoj

Very few people have trouble with attachments. To trouble shoot I need to know:

What OS?
What browser?
What brand PC?
Are you behind a hardware or software home or company firewall?
Do you have virus software running and what is it?
What type of file are you trying to attach?
EXACTLY what happens when you try? You say you get an error message - What does that message say?

Usually uploads fail because of size, because it's not an allowed file type or a firewall issue. The first place to start is to try to attach a file and when it fails READ EXACTLY WHAT THE ERROR MESSAGE SAYS. Then let me know what the error message said and we can go from there.

I've added .dot

There are a few hundred file extensions. The ones most used (considering this forum's focus group) are enabled here.

Hey Marc,

This Gap Analysis Tool is a purched product. Will there be an issue on posting it for all to share. I would like to help my fellow quality people, but don't want a problem with the posting. It's a Gap Analysis tool from Praxiom Research Group. What do you think? Thanks, Don (UV360)

If you bought it, it is not in the public domain and cannot be posted.

Marc,
Sorry for the confusion. I thought about it after the fact. I would not want to post something questionable on the site. Just trying to be helpful to fellow quality people. Thanks, Don :o
