View Full Version : Posting and Editing - Three Edit Modes are Available

There are 3 different levels of 'editor' available when you Start a New Thread, Post a Reply, or when you Edit a Post you have already made.

First go to your UserCP (http://elsmar.com/Forums/usercp.php) (User Control Panel)

On the left side you will see Edit Options (http://elsmar.com/Forums/profile.php?do=editoptions)

When you click this link, if you SCROLL DOWN, almost to the bottom, you will see this:

http://Elsmar.com/png/Message Editor.png

This is where you set the Editor you want to use. In this case, I have my option set to "Standard Editor - Extra Formatting Controls". I set mine to the Standard Editor because I do a lot of editing and need to be able to see all the formatting codes.

Options are:
Basic Editor - A simple text box
Just what it says. Allows you to see all Formatting Codes.

Standard Editor - Extra Formatting Controls
Has all the 'bells and whistles, but Allows you to see all Formatting Codes.

Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Controls
Has all the 'bells and whistles, but you CAN NOT see the Formatting Codes.

For more information on Editing and Posting, see the FAQ (http://elsmar.com/Forums/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_vb_read_and_post).

For more information on Formatting Codes, see this vB Code List (http://elsmar.com/Forums/misc.php?do=bbcode).

NOTE: Messages can be edited for about a week. After that, if you want to edit an old post, please contact me. This limitation is because someone, a couple of years ago, came in and deleted all the messages they posted and all the attachments they posted. Since that person had downloaded a lot of attachments, and deleting the posts left many 'confusing' threads, I decided to make sure it did not happen again.

I do not seem able to push any buttons.

I am in Firefox 1.07 but I just tried in IE and the buttons work there
Any one else with this problem?

When you are reading a thread, to activate the Quick Reply box you have to click on the symbol http://Elsmar.com/Forums/images/buttons/quickreply.gif in an existing post. That 'links' the two with your reply as a follow up (remember the old threaded view?) and activates the Quick Reply box.

I am using Firefox and the "Quick" post doesn't work for me either

Also I can't use the smilies or text buttons in this "Quote" reply or in the "Post Reply" (tried earlier).

http://elsmar.com/Forums/images/smilies/smile-a1.gif :)http://elsmar.com/Forums/images/smilies/cool.gif  In Firefox (1.0.5 - I'm conservative and slow to update), Clicking on the button to activate Quick Reply has no effect - screen remains grayed out. None of the icons work when I click on the buttons. Drag and drop brings over the urls of the buttons viz. http://elsmar.com/Forums/images/smilies/smile-a1.gif :)http://elsmar.com/Forums/images/smilies/cool.gif  I have checked the button below the reply screen for "Angry" (a red icon with a frown) to see if that displays with the title of the post. http://elsmar.com/Forums/images/icons/icon8.gif Angry (dragged and dropped that in edit - curious what will display.) Added in edit: Well! That was interesting! I didn't bother to look at the preview screen before In the edit screen, I can't change text color - have to try a new post to experiment with that! I note that edit screen also removes all previous paragraph formatting - very frustrating experience if you are used to all the bells and whistles otherwise available in IE.

Test for formatting. Yep! None of the features above the reply box are available either. Do attachments work, I wonder? I'll try to add a picture. Nope - feature doesn't even show up. I'll try to take a screen shot and then go to IE to post it.

I tested Firefox 107 here on my PC and everything works fine.

This is with Firefox 1.5 Beta - Again, everything works fine. :tg:

Plus another attachment test.

All tests to now have been on my PC running Windows 2000. I cannot reproduce the failures being described.

Ok the 'quick reply' button on the thread (you want to reply to) when clicked, opens the quick reply box (no longer greyed out and locked). All is well using IE 6.0.

Folks, I don't know what is happening but its bound to be a cookie or cache issue.

Ok the 'quick reply' button on the thread (you want to reply to) when clicked, opens the quick reply box (no longer greyed out and locked). All is well using IE 6.0.Yes - You MUST first click the button on a Post in a Thread for the Quick Reply box to 'Open' (become active).

I explained that in Post 4 in this thread and even put in a picture of the icon in each post - From Post 4:

When you are reading a thread, to activate the Quick Reply box you have to click on the symbol http://Elsmar.com/Forums/images/buttons/quickreply.gif in an existing post. That 'links' the two with your reply as a follow up (remember the old threaded view?) and activates the Quick Reply box.

I've still got all my cookies.

Firefox 1.0.7

Quote button works no function for any control except icon for postOK - You're saying you click the Quote button, the box comes up where you enter the post text, but none of the buttons in that box work? Highlight some text and click the button for Bold text and the text does not become bold?

Also - Are you using the standard editor or the WYSIWYG editor?

My apologies to you all.

Is loosing your cookies the same as tossing them?
