Need opinions! We are a tool & die shop, build our own tooling and make parts also. Our die setters use calipes and micrometers to check lead thickness only. Can I get away with out having stability tests on those instruments? The are not used to verify part quality.
Thanks!

According to what standard? QS9000 (4.11.4) says "This requirement [MSA] shall apply to measurement systems referenced in the Control Plan."

JSW05 is right. You can get away without stability study if the instrument is not in the control plan or if there is no customer requirement. One question I would have is: To what extent (if at all) would it affect the product quality if there was an error in this measurement or if the instrument drifted out of calibration before it is due for calibration?
