Leonardo OKC_IE 17th March 2005, 11:39 PM I called ASQ late this morning (March 17, 2005) and they said all the March 5th 2005 exam results had been posted except the CRE and CQM exams. I understood why the CQM exam results weren't posted because of the "essay" portion. However, I was surprised that the CRE exam which is all multiple choice (like the other exams) wasn't posted yet. By 12:45 PM March 17, 2005, I checked my ASQ account and my results were in. I passed :) I appreciate everyone's replies so I could tell when my results might be posted. Wes Bucey 18th March 2005, 01:06 AM Congratulations to all the successful certification exam participants.:applause: If any of you weren't successful, my sympathies. :( I do want to emphasize we are here to help you for the next time you take the test. There is no shame in missing the cut. For some of us, test taking under time pressure is very stressful. If that was your problem this time, we can definitely help for the next time - no secrets - the answer is read and study the right material and practice! practice! practice! First of all, congratulations! I happened to be on the committe that reviewed that CRE exam back in January, so perhaps I can shed a little light on the process, particularly the grading. The purpose of the January meeting was to go over the proposed questions and look for any problems - poor grammar, confusing wording, incorrect calculations, different approaches in different industries.... A dozen CRE's discussed, re-wrote, or replaced a number of questions that we didn't like. But nobody is perfect. During the exam, people have the option of adding comments. Those comments are reviewed and preliminary statistics are produced. If a question is deemed unfair for whatever reason at this point, everyone is given credit. I'm guessing that it was the review process that delayed specific exam scores, not the actual process of scanning the sheets. Tim F gard2372 18th March 2005, 08:09 PM Hi all, congrats to everyone who passed their respective ASQ Cert exams. I will be sitting for my CQE in June. I have just one question. I know common sense would prevail here, but as far as I can tell from the exam brochure, and all the posts I've read I cannot find anything that pertains to "Breaks" during the examination. :whip: The exams most are 5 hours, I assume it's a given for anytime for a bathroom break is allowed, but are their any scheduled breaks factored in addition to the five hours for exam? Regards, Rob  Govind 18th March 2005, 09:15 PM Good Question. No one ever asked this question before in any boards. CQMgr has a scheduled break between Constructive response and multiple choice portion. Typically 5 minutes to 10 minutes. (Discretion of the Proctor). Exams Other than CQMgr have no scheduled breaks (to my knowledge). Examinees can use washroom, get a drink from a vending machine nearby leaving one at a time. 5 hours too long for CQE (my opinion). Most people in my sitting finished the exam in 2.5 hours~3 hours. Regards, Govind. gard2372 18th March 2005, 09:23 PM Thanks Govind, I'll make sure I don't drink too much coffee that morning  Govind 18th March 2005, 09:45 PM See exam is 8am in the morning. Many of us drive some distance to these locations. No time to eat breakfast. So carrying some juice, snack bar (healthy one), tylenol, a flask of coffee, water, etc is not a bad idea. It has helped me in these exams. I usually stick around until the end of the exam revising atleast 3 times to see any possibility of error. This is also sometimes not good as we tend to change the correct answer to a wrong one. Prepare well. Time yourself often. Relax before exam night (easy to say). You have many weeks to prepare. Good Luck. Govind. OKC_IE 19th March 2005, 10:33 AM First of all, congratulations! I thought a couple of the questions didn't give enough specific information. However, the questions might have been fine and I just missed something due to the pressure of the exam. I believe ASQ does a great job of getting the results to the examinees in a timely manner. I wanted to make that clear just in case anyone thought I was complaining about ASQ's exam results cycle time. I took the Professional Engineer's exam in October and it took around 7 weeks to get the results. So less than two weeks is awesome. An April 2000 Quality Progress article on certification states that the results cycle time was 3 1/2 weeks in 2000. (see Top 10 Myths section of this article http://www.asq.org/pub/qualityprogress/past/0400/qp0400moran.pdf ). So ASQ has continued to improve. OKC_IE 19th March 2005, 10:58 AM Good Question. Regards, Govind. Govind, I believe you are correct that all exams (except the CQM) don't have scheduled breaks. So if you take a break, you use up some of your exam time. When I took the CQE and CRE exams, I made sure I didn't have to take a break because I wanted to use all my time for the exam. For both exams, I used all the time that was allotted. A major reason why I used all the time was the way I took the exam. I spent a lot of time in the beginning of the exam verifying every answer by looking it up in the Primer. So for the last part of the exam, I had to hurry through the questions. I'm not recommending this method but just wanted people to know a potential "trap" to the open book format. Also, I recommend bringing some ear plugs to the exam. I forgot to bring mine to the CRE exam and wished I had. There was a class or meeting in the next room that was very distracting (lots of talking and laughing). On another note, I recommend the Quality Council of Indiana's Primers for the CQE and CRE exams. Both worked well for me. I just ordered the CQA Primer so I can take the CQA exam in June. suraj singh 20th March 2005, 04:02 AM I got my result on 18th. I passed the ASQ SSBB Govind 20th March 2005, 11:59 AM I got my result on 18th. I passed the ASQ SSBB Suraj, Welcome to Cove. Congratulations. Do you want to share your prepration strategy and reference material info? I was also told by the certification group in ASQ that SSBB certifications have increased in India in the last few years. Since you took this exam from India, it will be interesting to know what your approach is. Thanks, Govind. suraj singh 21st March 2005, 04:10 AM Dear Govind, As I am completing my M.Tech in Industrial Engg. & Mgt. from IIT Kharagpur (I joined it after working few years in Industry) this month, I was lucky enough to have a. Already a good background in DOE & other Industrial Engg. portions(Lean,TOC etc). b. I got enough time for preparation. I had access to all the resources given in reference & I read widely . I prepared for two months. c.However, even than before 15 days of exam ,I purchased QCI primer as it is very concise & everything is in one place. However, I would like to make it clear that one cannot pass this exam just by using this material. But one must have it. Its a good starting material. d. I felt very comfortable in exam, completed all the questions in 2 hrs. After that I checked all my answers. e. A good strategy for preparation is to divide your time equally between numerical/ non-numerical portions & getting confidence in previous first. Hope that is useful to other exam takers. Thanks, SURAJ. Damascus 21st March 2005, 11:17 AM I passed the ASQ CSSBB test too!! In terms of studying, I have GE Green Belt and Black Belt training manuals, but they were not useful for this test. However, the SSBB Primer from the Indiana Quality Council was an excellent resource for this test. It was the only book/manual that I brought to the test. As mentioned earlier, earplugs would have been nice. One gentleman in the room brought about 25 books! Needless to say, he was a bit noisy. The overall experience was superb. I did not come across any suprises in the test. holly21 21st March 2005, 12:44 PM About breaks: The proctor for my exam allowed breaks whenever you wanted them, as long as no two people were out of the room at a given time, but it took part of your exam time I think it would be great to offer a 10 -15 minute break half way through exams, but making sure people didn't talk about the tests during this break would be hard to manage. howste 21st March 2005, 01:31 PM I think that time management is a large part of the exams. My experience has been that most of the people who take exams take the full amount of time allowed. A few people are scrambling the last few minutes, but most finish just a little early and review some of their more questionable answers. The exception is the CQIA, which people often finish in 1 ~ 1.5 hours. I proctor all of the exams for my section, and the instructions from ASQ state that breaks can be taken, but no extra time is allowed to compensate. If you manage your time well, you should be able to take a break and still finish on time. Gerry Quinn 21st March 2005, 03:04 PM I proctor exams for my local section. There are no scheduled breaks during any exam. If you want to take a break you can, but the clock is still ticking. With respect to the time alotted for exams. In my experience, the vast majority of people take all of the time that is allowed. Very few are able to finish the exams in less time. |
