View Full Version : Can I use a 17025 laboratory for calibration outside of their scope?

Good evening
I have been asked if a TS16949 compliant manufacturing plant can use a ISO17025 approved laboratory for a calibration task NOT listed in their UKAS scope, but they have an "in house" procedure, traceable to national standards? Can anyone help as TS16949 is a new area to me.

Paul, Welcome to the Cove.

I believe there are situations where calibration labs can do calibrations for instruments or gages not specifically listed in their scope but I am not at work so I can't look it up till Monday.

Let's leave this post open for a while to see if we get some responses from the lab experts. If we don't, I will move the post to the 17025 thread to see if we can get a response there.

The logic of using an accreditated lab for performing an calibration / activity which is not approved/verified by the respective accreditation body , defeats the intent of the ts standard. :mg: :mg:
Under this pesumption any external lab with defined procedures could be used.

Who is competent to verify that the procedures defined by this lab are appropriate ? - certainly your national accreditation body, and not the organisations who will use this lab services.

In short NO - the lab has to be accreditated for the activities you are outsourcing - calibration/testing .

Lab has to have an organization like the National Association of Proficiency Testing to perform an independent certification test before they can provide any non-accredited certification.

Thank you all for your help and guidance, looks like I'll have to find a UKAS lab for projectors!
