View Full Version : Title(s) on your Business Cards - "Management Representative" as a second title?

Hello everyone!
As you may remember, I have (had) been an independent contractor here for over two years now. My primary responsibilities were manufacturing engineering projects and some product engineering.

In addition, about eight months after I started, I was made Management Representative in charge of getting the company ISO 9001:2000 certified - from scratch. Ten months later, we were certified by BSI with no no-conformances of any kind cited.

It is now eight months later, we have had one semi-annual continuing audit, again with no non-conformances, and I have additional responsibilities - new product development.

Yesterday, I was hired as a regular full-time employee! :D

My title is "Product Development Manager", and that is what my business cards will say under my name.

Questions:
In addition to my 'company' title, is it proper to also have "Management Representative" as a second title? If so, what title do you use or is proper to use; for instance:
"Management Representative"
or
"Management Representative/ISO 9001:2000"
or
"ISO 9001:2000 Management Representative"
or - any others?

My business cards have to title on them but I have only 1 employee. On his card is the title Process Assurance Design. In my travels I have never had someone comment on a business card but their should be some other comments on the need, use, misuse, benefit.....of business.

I usually use mine in the fishbowl at the loacal deli to win pizza. 3 so far.:D

I'd like to point out that most folks merely have a job "title" (normally the highest sounding rank they can manage) on their business cards.

They do not normally clutter the card with a list of their job "functions."

That said, you wrote "My title is "Product Development Manager", and that is what my business cards will say under my name."

Sounds absolutely fine - you are a manager, why dilute it by also saying you are something lesser, a "management representative?"

MR for ISO purposes is merely a "function" and not worthwhile for anyone to know except an auditor who comes around from time to time and is sure to be more impressed by your REAL title.

In general I agree, except for the idea that additional responsibilities somehow equate to diminution of a job title. If additions serve a purpose beyond trumpeting, then by all means add them. IMO a business card is a way of transmitting information, and information that doesn't serve a purpose probably shouldn't be transmitted.

Strangely, in the enviroment (Medical) I work in and around, it is not the job title but the letters after the name that is important.

Our organization indicates MR responsibility on the org charts that we maintain.............underneath the responsible individual's title.

I see no need to put it on a business card though.

I told my boss when we were picking new titles, "Titles are only important when you leave a company and go on to the next one"

If there is no need for the additional "MR" as far as ISO 9001:2000 'pratices' are concerned, then that is great. That's what I wanted to know - I'll leave the title section with just "Product Development Manager".

When dealing with design engineers during any product development they could care less about a Management Rep. Either too busy trying to get a design freeze or coming too close to the design freeze.
For the longest time all I had on mine was Process Engineer - to me it said everything it needed to.
