View Full Version : Quality (ISO 9001 QMS) Implementation Problems

I have been asked to implement our QMS standards (ISO 9001:2000) for a time and material maintenance project which is being executed for the past two years. My problem areas are

a. The project has no documents till date.

b. Its a web site maintenance project, and the client sends change requests and reports bigs via emails.

c. No effectiveness measurement has been done

d.Is it essential to have a PMP,SRS & SDD.

e. If yes,On what basis do i design the SRS, SDD & PMM (keeping in mind that the project was started 2 years back without any documentation)

f. Since this is a maintenance project the volume of bugs reported and change requests per day is very high, so how do i go about preparing the schedule and effort estimate.

Need your valuable suggestions.

Regards
Smita

1]Never mind about records or documents for last 2 years, implement QMS for the future, not past years.
2]Best get done with a consultant ( a must if you have little knowledge about ISO9k).
3]Measurement - what value is your customer buying (satisfaction factors) ? Example response time. Start with something small and simple that are critical to the operation, that would lead you to you PMP, SDD ( I dunno what they are, but should relate to Process Control Plan, Standard Operation Procedure).

IMHO - you should understand ISO9k requirements before embarking on the project.

You are using some acronyms that I do not know. Please explain further, and you might get more helpful replies.

PMP : Project Management Plan
SRS: Software Requirement Specification
SDD: SOftware Design Document DOcument

If i start documenting the project as of today, Am i required to prepare the above documents, if yes what is the basis of the data (today the team has 5 change requests).

Smita,
you need to ask your Organisation Management these Question...
1)Why do they feel the need to implement ISO 9001:2000 ?
2)Are you currently working on Software Quality Assurance Acitivies ?
3)what do you mean by Quality ? when you are considering it in a software Company ?
4) In What terms are you looking at ISO 9001:2000, from Quality improvement point of View or just becoz others are going for it, so you also want it for your company.

Implementation of ISO 9001:2000 does not mean QUALITY ASSURANCE.
You Need to Implement Quality Assurance Activites in your company in a planned manner. After which Implementing ISO 9001:2000 will be easy Job.

Hi,
I have just finished implementing ISO9001:2000 in my company. I used a very simple web based intranet system which I wrote in Microsoft Word.
I can let you have a copy of the Quality Manual I put together minus the bits for my company.
