Hi
guys do you have to say on all the documents like forms, work Instructions, and procedures at the bottom as "uncontrolled documents". (or) do you just mention it at the start of the manual (or) on all the documents that are on the shop floor as well
thanks a bunch

We have just used the watermark feature to have it on all pages. Usually it is diaganol on the page. If you use word it is easy to do.

Our documents are all on the intranet and they are controlled. If a document is printed (hardcopy) then it is uncontrolled. This is mentioned in our Quality Manual and procedure for Control of Documents and Records (Combined 4.2.3 and 4.2.4)
When we used to have just hardcopies then all of the controlled documents carried a stamp that stated they were 'controlled' therefore if they did NOT have a stamp then they were uncontrolled. Try and keep it simple.

Yay, Greg! :applause: :agree1:  Simple is the best! Our system is like your's...electronic and that is the controlled copy as described in our Quality Manual.
Our document control software automatically prints off a "header" statement with the Uncontrolled statement which, as our process staes, can only be over-ridden by a non-blank in stamp stating "Controlled Document".
We also keep track of where our controlled copies are located and number of them.

You don't have to do either. What you have to do is the 4.2.3 a-g stuff. The question is how do document users know what document to use? I would really question the existence of “uncontrolled” documents. I often hear this document is “for reference only”. To me that means I can remove the said document and the user can still do the job, without it.
However, organizations often place too many, and too strict rules on document control. This does not have to be a major thing. It does not have to require a “document controller”. Some organizations can go as far as to having everyone control their own documents. Make rules that are applicable to you and will work.
