ASQ has released a refreshed website. I did not spend much time there, but I tried to find a link to the discussion boards and could not readily find it.

The web site seems to be designed to better market the organization, and less as a gathering place/source for members.

I typed "discussion" in the search window and was given a set of links that took me there right away.

I found the discussion boards right away after I logged in.

Check out the Quality Digest Magazine (http://www.qualitydigest.com/currentmag/news.shtml#3) article.

ASQ Membership Decline Spurs Changes
"It used to be a one-size-fits-all approach, and we've overhauled that to reflect the needs of our members," Nelson-Rowe says. "ASQ is a nondenominational house of quality. We're not exclusive."
Quality Digest

Edit Add by Marc: Please note that the link in this post will expire. Rather than have pages with permanent links as most sites do, Quality Digest uses a 'currentmag' link so the above link will soon go dead.

Folks I visited the website & it looks great to me & found out that those things which a memeber needs/use is well formatted. Including the discussion board. etc

amanbhai,

What does a member need to use on the website? I gave up my membership without regret but am still interested. Is there an increased value?

Thanks,

Al...

Al, Hope you don't mind my jumping in here, but it looks to me like it's the same book with a different cover. Window dressing, if you know what I mean. I have retained membership with ASQ for another year, but only because the company I work for paid the fee.

Quality Digest Ummm, this could use some explaining.

What is your Definition of Quality? (http://elsmar.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=1459)
Has your definition of Quality changed over time? (http://elsmar.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=7846)
What is the definition of 'Ideal' Quality? (http://elsmar.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=10284)
Alternatives to the Title of 'QUALITY' (http://elsmar.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=1370)

I think the ASQ's statement would be a good discussion thread topic in and of its self.

Marc, if we could get ASQ to further explain what they meant, THEN, I would be surprised. That would mean that something REALLY changed.....
Do they "walk the talk"? Talk is cheap....I love these cliches.

I see this as more of an issue of whether 'quality' is a distinct field of expertise. I have argued the the word quality is of little value because it cannot be consistently defined.

Current comments on the current status of the ASQ's forums and web site?

To be very honest about this subject whenever I'm asked in any course I'm giving about a good place on the "net" to find information and help the "Cove" is my 1st recommendation and the "ASQ" the last.

Factors I use when making a recommendation are:

1. Cost (Cove is free)
2. Quality of response
3. Speed of response
4. Community involvement (Community being membership)
5. Range of community (Cove is Global)
6. Personalities of community (There is value in different perspectives)
