I expect to get a solid sense, finally, of whether I should renew my membership or not.

I will be able to ask if my section's leadership has been contacted by head office regarding direction and living strategy.

Last week I received a call from WI asking if I would stay. I asked what plans were there to connect more with the community, especially small businesses and education, where I see need and opportunity for growth. If there was a plan, being an educator (so far) I might serve some function in outreach efforts and so I would renew. She couldn't say if there was such a plan, but told me she would forward my question to John Dew of the Education Division. No word yet from John, in my e-mail or by phone or on the education discussion board since April.

I'll let you know if there is any sort of breaking news. :cfingers:

Want to have some fun? Tell WI you won't re-up unless you get a copy of the FY 06 ASQ Business Plan. Tell them you need that to see if they are serious about quality.

Then watch . . . so far they have refused to allow me a copy. I am replying then as a Section Chair I refuse to give WI a copy of my business plan until they give me a copy of theirs! :bonk:

Maybe so. I do not think anyone there is losing sleep until the block by your name on the mailing list is Xed off... their minds have probably already moved on to the next thing.

I went to the executive committee meeting and they hadn't been receiving any overtures from WI.

On their own they are figuring out ways to reach out to atypical quality users by calling upon area Chambers and asking if there are any businesses that want to share a success story with the chapter at a meeting. They want to form mentoring relationships among members by regular personal contact. They want to find a public education school or district with a story to tell about a journey in quality systems. They want to make it clear that all are welcome to come to meetings and create a welcoming sense in the community. They want to move the quaity focus past the lower and mid levels and into the highest levels. They want to find ways to help small businesses who can't afford consultants but still need help in things like analysis.

These are positive developments, all made locally which will have to do given the lack of them in WI.
