On some PCs, depending on what OS, browser and preferences of both the OS and the browser, you may have to right click.

If you right-click the attachment and try to save it, that's what will happen. Just left-click on the attachment and you'll see something like this (if you're using Internet Explorer):

You'll see a similar dialog box if you're using Firefox or some other browser. You can open or save the file from there. Post back if this doesn't solve the problem for you.

Disable Download Accelerator. There should be an icon for it in the tray (where the clock is).

"Disable Download Accelerator" for Windows PCs may not work.

Kamarajan You will have to tell us exactly what happens when you try to download an attachment. We can't help unless you tell us the details. For example: If you get an error message, what does it say?

A dialogue box pops up asking for an option whether to "save" or "open". On choosing either of the option, the "Getright" (which is a download software installed in my system) dialogue box pops up and saves a file called "attachment.php", which ultimately opens (after the download is over)in a program called "dreamweaver" in my system, irrespective of the type of file downloaded.
Hope I have given enough details to help you to help me!

I don't use a PC, but I'm betting your "Getright" program is the problem.

Technically, if you download the file and it's named 'attachment.php', you can rename it to the name of the file attached in the post and it will open in the appropriate program.

As to the file opening in Dreamweaver, if you have Dreaweaver (and I assume you do) your system is set up for Dreamweaver to open php files. I don't know where, but that file name suffix (.php) 'association' can be changed to 'Ask What to Do' somewhere. You don't want Dreamweaver to automatically open a .php file.

Bottom line is I'm betting "Getright" is your problem, though.

Thank you very much for the express and authentic response! I uninstalled "getright" and then tried downloading files!
It works!
thanks again

You don't want Dreamweaver to automatically open a .php file. I better clarify this - It is typical for a program to 'associate' with a file extension. Dreamweaver is an advanced 'web site editor' so associating it with .php files is normal when Dreamweaver is installed, which you technically would want. I said "You don't want Dreamweaver to automatically open a .php file." but that is only true if you're trying to get around the defaults to open a file (in this case 'attachment.php) in a specific program.
