View Full Version : ISO 10019:2005, for who? Selection of quality management systems consultants

The new “ISO 10019:2005 “Guidelines for the selection of quality management systems consultants and use of their services”, is a standard made by consultants to protect future customers from their bad work?
As a consultant most of my customers don’t have time (or sometimes interest) in reading ISO 9001, should I give them this new standard for them to read before they hire my services?
Isn’t this a little of the order?
Who is this standard made for?

Sincerely I don’t believe that an organization that needs ISO 9001 support, before buying a consultant service is going to read this standard. If they can understand this standard, for sure they don’t need any coaching...

I figure if they're not ISO 9001 savvy, giving them a copy of 10019 won't help.

For instance, let’s look of what is happening in my country.
Larger and transnational organizations don’t need new consultants, generally they work with the same consultancy company in all countries either they are good or bad.
The price of quality consultancy here is lower each year. The arrival to the “market” of very young and inexperienced “consultants”, made the prices go to such a small value, that “old” people that used to perform this job, are finishing this kind of activity. Now almost of them are just auditors. Consultants here in Portugal are all less than 30 years old.
The result of this situation is QMS each time made more just to get registration and without any added value to the organization that hired the consultant.
Years ago there was lots of money coming to Portugal from the EU, which was used to develop industry in the quality field. Being an ISO 9000 consultant was very good (economically speaking). Now there’s no more “easy money” and this field is almost dead.
This standard will not be very useful here...:(
