I have been surfing the net of late and have discovered some wonderful weblogs (Blogs) and some not so wonderful. I would be interested to know if anyone here has a blog they would like to share. Hopefully, something with good, uplifting writing and not a political or se*ual diatribe. I'll post some of the blogs I like at a later date once I have seen a response.

I think Arter has one (he had a web site a while back which I think he let die), but the blogs I have seen are political.

I'm sorta about to challenge you. The blogs I see are opinion pages, and about every one is political. Don't get me wrong - I started this site with the same 'idea' (My Opinion Is ....) so I'm not complaining. I gave my 'opinions' frequently. E.g.: See Word On The Street Is... A Kentucky Bumpkin's General Commentary (http://Elsmar.com/obsolete/wots.html) from 1998.

Anyway - I admit - I'm interested as well.

I did check out Dennis Arter's blog - It's a standard blog. A set of entries and commentary. Best I can figure, he has abandoned his web site. It was always an advertisement haven, so I rarely visited. Anyway, his blog seems OK. There are a number of entries which were entered here, so it's sorta a daily diary of the blogger with 'news' items (such as the
Pastafarian Flying Spaghetti Monster vs. Science (http://Elsmar.com/pdf_files/Pastafarian%20Flying%20Spaghetti%20Monster/).

One thing I must say is that Dennis's old web site was an advertisement heaven. Yet - His curent blog (as of 30 Aug 2005 3:00 am EDT) has no advertisements.

Do remember - A blog is essentially a log of 'events' / opinions, typically a bloggers opinion and a mix of links to articles on other sites 'lifted' from other web sites or news services (yes - I {and many of us} do this, but it's not the 'base' of the forums).

A forum (such as the Elsmar Cove ISO9000 and Quality Assurance / Business Systems Forums (http://Elsmar.com/Forums/)) is not really a 'news' outlet and/or site owner opinion diary. A Forum is more of a situation where people ask questions, get answers and discuss situations.

A Blog is typically more of a 'Headline News' / combo / 'Opinion' site. A forum (such as here) is where people come for various extended topic discussions - Especially company specific scenarios.

I guess I sorta think blogs are over rated. Folks who come here to the Elsmar Cove forums, for example, can discuss their situation in detail and folks like the moderators will try to help out on a personal level. In the Elsmar Cove you get more situation specific help vs. 'blog owner opinions'.

Oh well - I'm all ears. List and discuss your favourite non-political blogs!

Not really blogs, as I've pretty much stopped looking at those as there really isn't time enough in a day to do so. However, there are several sites I check regularly based on a hobby/interest in blacksmithing. They both feature forums and have become an online community since there are many repeat posters - in some ways simlar to the activity here on the Cove. The sites are www.forgemagic.com and www.anvilfir.com. Both attract an international audience, and forgemagic is based out of New Zealand, while anvilfire is US based. If anyone is interested in custom knives, there is a bladesmith's forum available through www.dfoggknives.com where issues with making them and selling them are addressed. The forum occasionally features some interesting discussions between metallurgists and working bladesmiths.

I guess you add QA activities/responsibilities to a metallurgist, but can't take the metallurgist out of the QA Engineer.

Yeah - There are several 'specialty' sites I visit every day, but none are 'blogs'.

Blacksmithing, eh? Interesting. I saw a picture of a guy recently who was passing a gas station riding a horse. The caption said he's doing errands on his horse now that gas prices are so high.

The only one I check regularly is a local one

http://www.erieblogs.com/

The fellow does a good job of sharing more information than the one local newspaper and I usually find his sense of humor to be a nice change of pace.

It probably wouldn't interest anyone who isn't in NW PA but hey you asked!

This only peripherally connected to the subject, but if you're an inveterate web surfer, I highly recommend Stumbleupon (http://www.stumbleupon.com/), a website sharing service that allows users to share (and rate) favorite websites with friends and like-minded strangers. Completely free, no adware, spyware, or anything else undesireable that I've seen, and I've been introduced to a lot of great sites that I might never have seen without it.

I have recently discovered a very entertaining technology pundit by the name of Andy Ihnatko.

You can read Andy's Colossal Waste of Bandwidth, as he has called it, at http://www.cwob.com/yellowtext/.

I like this blog: http://www.thevisionthing.com/index.php

Other than the usual assorted blog drivel, he writes about Business Process Management subjects and his articles on flowcharting are great.

Eventually I'll get my own blog up and running again. When I do, perhaps I'll post a link (but since that borders on self-promotion/spamming I'm hesitant).

After a long period of procrastination I opened a TypePad account and started a quality-oriented blog: Common Sense Quality. I included a plug for the Cove, as well as a permanent link. No ads, either--just general ruminations centered around my belief that too much time is spent complicating things that ought to be simple. Please feel free to visit and leave comments as you see fit.

I also abandoned my general-interest blog, for a number of reasons, not the least of which being the free Blogspot medium that hosted it is something of a PITA, and the nominally-priced Typepad offers more flexibility. I started anew at TypePad: The Gropes of Wrath.

Another excellent quotable quote.... Very Good!

I'll take a look at the site.
