View Full Version : Looking to attend a QMS conference - Seeking recommendations
barbt 23rd August 2005, 10:08 AM Several times a year I am made aware of QMS related conferences happening. - Offered by various different organizers, they all claim similar themes.
Most recently, I have been solicited for one happening beginning of Oct. in Florida.
I am assuming that other covers attend these conferences. Can anyone make 'must attend' recommendations for a first timer with a limited budget?
many thanks,
Barbt

Assuming your QMS is registered by a third party and you have a good relationship with your auditor. Maybe you could weasel the auditor into writing an opportunity for improvement to that effect, next time he visits.
That way it won't look to management like you just want to sun on the beach for a few days.

I obviously don't have a clue about US conferences, but basically you find yourself one with an agenda you like, and go. Besides, you'll probably find that the most important thing is to be able to mingle and discuss things with other Q geeks: The participants. Just like here, actually.:D

BarbtI would not go to this one since it is still hurricane season in October. December through March is better for Florida.

Good answer for someone with an unlimited budget.
I think the gentle lady is looking for advice on how to finangle management into accepting that the conference is a benefit to the organization.
If all that was required was to '"find yourself an agenda you like, and go", I think she would have been gone by now.
barbt 23rd August 2005, 12:42 PM I know that there are several conferences a year sponsored by the ASQ, but this one in Florida is not. The topics for discussion sound completely reasonable, but I am wary that the sponsor's interests will be showcased during all sessions (- specific software solutions, publications, training etc. )
Are there covers out there who regularly attend these events, - if so, which one(s)? (is it polite to mention the sponsor?)
As for the venue, no question it matters, but not enough if it is 'THE' event of the year.

/barbtMention the sponsor. There is no question that sponsors tend to showcase their solutions.
