I am currently running a dimensional tool repair company. I am slowly getting into calibrations and am running into many brick walls. I want to calibrate test indicators, dti's, depth mics, height gauges, etc. I have looked all over the internet, for nationally and internationally recognized procedures for calibration of this equipment and have found nothing but informal methods. I do have my own internal calibration procedures, but, with a focus set on future accreditation, I would like to use procedures that are ofcourse recognized. Can anyone help??

I'm not sure that what you're looking for exists, which would explain why you're having trouble finding it :D. The problem is that while most types of measurement devices are very similar in design and construction, they're not exactly the same, so a one-size-fits-all approach on an international level might not be practical. If you were to seek accreditation, no accrediting body would expect you to have anything other than internal documentation that makes sense for the applications involved, so if you have your own procedures already, they shouldn't be a barrier to accreditation.

The best approach is to join GIDEP (Government - Industry Data Exchange Program), and then you will have access to U.S. military procedures. This will help for accreditation, as these procedures are well recognized and validated.
I think the website is www.gidep.org
Hope this helps.

Currently we are using the ANSI/ASTM E 4 - 72 as an internal procedure. I suggest you use the same methods. But we are using the 1978 handbook I'm sure the latest edition is available in the market.

We formulate our in-house cal procedures using the relevant British Standards. Example. BS1643 for vernier height gauges, BS870 for ext micrometers, BS6468 for depth micrometers, etc. (NB. of course we can use the BS directly but it really depends on whether all of the stipulated checks are necessary based on requirements, or the economic point of view). Hope this helps. Thks.

Thankyou so much for your response. Is there a gratis copy available? Because my company has such a low income, I have to make absolutely certain that what I spend money on is absolutely usable and necessary. Thanks again
