View Full Version : Similar But Not Quite The Same - Registrar Notification

Hello everyone. It's not often that I cannot find the solution in the older threads. I hope everyone here knows what an incredibly valuable resource that they have at their fingertips. I recommend this site often. Thank you all very much. :bighug:

I have a question similar to the franchise but so as not to intrude on that thread, I've opted to begin a new one. Hope this follows Cove decorum.

I was informed yesterday that the "legal" name of the company that I work for has been changed as one investor has opted out and there has been another investor take his place. So we will be "New Comapny Name" dba (doing business as) "Old Company Name". Business cards, signage etc. will not change. Is it required of me to notify my registrar?

I would, merely as a :ca:

The essential thing is to point out how much remains the same, presuming the absent investor was not a crucial part of the operations. The Registrar could then amend the records to reflect the correct legal designation of the organization and prevent unforeseen problems down the road.

Any kind of administrative fee the Registrar might charge, if any, would be miniscule in comparison to cost of a future hassle from a customer or competitor over the omission.

Added in edit:
It occurs to me that this type of problem would most likely NOT occur with a corporation, only with a partnership. As a customer, I might be concerned about the capability and capacity of the remaining (plus new) partners to continue as a viable business if the withdrawing partner were a key part of the original ensemble.

Thanks Wes. The now absent partner was in no way shape or form a part of the daily operations of the business. I've been here for the better part of a year and wouldn't have known him if I had passed him in the hallway. So, the daily operational aspect of the business are in no way going to change. I do agree though that we should notify our registrar. It was during conversations of the transition with my boss that this question arose.
