I am fairly new to aerospace quality and would like some advice about FAIR's. My company manufactures a number top level assemblies and rolls the part number down to all the sub level components just changing the last 3 digits on each part. My question revolves around the fact that a number of top level parts have been up-issued and therefore all the sub level components have been up-issued without any change to FFF, do I need to perform a partial FAIR on all of these sub level components(approx 90)

thanks

madeyecol, Welcome to the Cove :bigwave:
I don't have an answer for you, but by bringing this thread to the top again, maybe someone will spot it and lend an assist.

madeyecolI would document that the part no. changed. I don't think you need a full First Article Inspection Report. What does your system require for engineering changes? What does your customer require?

Welcome to the cove,
to Back Al Rosen up, I agree you would only document that the part number changed and not do a FAI, but be sure you review your internal procedures/requirements first.

There is a lot of information about FAIR and other issues here

I believe that if you have not changed anything on the sub level parts you do not have to perform a FAIR. There is something in AS9102 about changes that affect form, fit and function of the product should lead to FAIR, if I remember it correctly. So if the changes made, only affect the properties of the top level assembly you should get away with performing one FAIR. On the other hand you have to check your customers specs to be sure they haven't added anything. It is also adviseable to always keep a record of why a change was made and to document why you did not perform a FAIR.
