Hello, Backfromthefuture and welcome to the Cove.

If you scroll down to the bottom of this thread, you'll find some links to related threads, but I'm uncertain if they will help you in your quest for a sample manual.

The easiest way to create a sample manual is to simply copy the standard and put their name on the title page. Of course, then you'll need to determine all the ways that the organization meets the stated requirements, but that goes beyond the scope of this thread.

I see, by your profile, Backfromthefuture, that you are consultant and I understand that this is your first experience with OHSAS 18001. I would highly recommend that if you do not want this first client to be your last client for 18001 that you take a course on 18001. This will help you to understand the requirements and hopefully allow you to help your client develop a system that works for them.

Hello all!!

This is my first post reply in here - so hello everyone!
Has anyone got a OHSAS 18001 manual developed for the shipping company? Ship owner preferably:) The thing is, that the company I work for is OHSAS 18001 certified, however the safety management system itself and the OHSAS manual are not too good :) We are currently working on improving our OHSAS 18001 manual, however taking into consideration fact that it is written mainly for our ships - not a typical shore based organization - to find some guidance in the web is extremely difficult.
What I'm looking for is mainly the good risk management system, which I will propose to include as a separate chapter in our OHSAS 18001 booklet.
The question is - as I can see I have lost it a little bit :) - does anyone have a link to any shipping organization certified to OHSAS 18001 whith the people willing to help ?
I'm working for the ship owner with the fleet of 14 vessels in service.
Cheers
Daniel

Hey...Check with Sidney Vianna here in the Cove. he might be able to help you out as long as it doesn't present a conflict or violate confidentiality requirements. His company does a ton of shipping stuff

Hello.

In connection with “management manual” topic… why do we really want to have such a manual ? I believe that it's imperative for each compagny to answer these two questions:
- Who is the user(s) of the Q, E or H&S management manual ?
- Which is the real utility of this manual regarding practical management ?

Actually it is not a requirement of ours main management systems standards (only ISO 9001, but neither ISO 14001 nor ILO-OSH or OHSMS national standards require some manual ).

Actually in much of our companies the management system documentation is available in Intranet and its first viewing screens as its total tree structure fill completely the requirements of EMS or OSMS standards !

Cordially.

Hello Mr Hernia,

Thank you for your suggestion. I know that manual is not mandatory for EMS and OHSAS but the organizations are not satisfied if manual is not prepared.

One more suggestion I want from you that my organization is certified with both QMS and EMS, Now the top management wants to go for OHSAS. I suggest to go for IMS in which OHSAS is also covered. Instead of having three different certificates the organisation can have only single certificate.

Please give your opinion in this regards

Thank you

Hi Neelayavalasa !

It seems to me that even if your IMS is audited only once you obtain any way 3 certificates (1 for each specific Q, H&S and E management standard you choised).

Bye.
