I have introduced 3 friends of mine yet but I don't see them on my personal page. Is it that I (or the other guy) missing something here.

I think that they have to say who refered them and probably use the correct user name. If they do not say then the software cannot guess

When registering, there is a field for the 'Referrer'. The name input has to be the exact forum user name of the person who referred them.

I wouldn't worry about it too much as we don't use that to measure anything. It's a software 'hangover' from some years back where 'local' boards often placed a 'premium' on getting visitors to 'spread the word' so that more people would visit.

I did look through the software options and the 'Referrer' field is only visible at registration screen. It isn't available anywhere after that as far as I can tell.

However, there is another 'Referrer' aspect... If someone e-mails a link to a page here (Thread Tools dropdown > Email Link to this Page) then that e-mail will contain a link to the page with the Referrer's User ID (the number associated with that forum user name). If the receiving person clicks that link the referrer's Referrer count will increment (this is according to the vB option control panel which says: "If you enable the User Referrer system, then a user who visits your forum through a link that contains 'referrerid=XXX' will give referral credit to the owner of the referrerid when they register (where XXX is the userid of the referring user)."
