We supply indirectly for many of the large automotive manufacturers and are often told we need to use a coating that meets a specific standard, most of which call out the use of an approved coating. Of course nobody ever seems to be able to direct me to a list of approved products so I instead call up just about every product manufacturer I know and request information, sometimes talking to half a dozen people before I find the correct person. Does anyone know of some sort of listing or database that provides all the approved products for a specific standard? The product I'm working on now is a Ford Spec, WSS M2P180-A.

It would seem logical to make this information readily available if they want it to be used, but experience tells me logic is often the exact opposite of what I get when dealing with the Big (or used to be Big) 3.

The Big 3 OEM's each maintain a database of approved bulk materials like resins, coatings, etc. If a supplier getsone of their materials onto that list, then it is automatically approved for similar applications. The OE's would have that list, as would suppliers who are on it.
