7. Why can't the suppliers do it GOOD and do it RIGHT when they can do it. :(
Probably for the same reasons that the customers can't :D.
pcghost 22nd January 2006, 08:48 PM Otherwise, I would go jobless.
LOL.
Nowadays should be Price for Quality.
Cost reduction plans etc, the $ paid for = quality received.

I guess you would call my company a service company. We recover
assets, especially telephone systems, computer systems and networks for
leasing companies. We then audit the recovered systems and place them
in our warehouse. We supply the information from the recovery and audit
to the leasing company, and store the assets until our customer decides
the disposition of the asset.
That disposition may be to scrap the assets, they may also ask us to ship
the assets to another location where they have re-leased the equipment,
or they may ask us to sell the equipment for them on ebay or another
on-line site.
5. Started last Wednesday
6. I have no quality experience.
Up until last week I was Programmer/Analyst. I was moved into my current
position by the CEO of my company. The CEO wants to be ISO9000 and
6Sigma compliant asap. The sad thing is there are no known quality
manuals or procedures in existence, so I will be starting from scratch.
My CEO said the reason I was chosen was because of my analytical skills
and because of my poven skill at documentation.
In the past I have participated in forums related to the Information Systems
occupation and have found them to be a great source of knowledge.
At the outset I will probably not have much assistance to offer people at this
forum as I grow into this new career, but in the future I hope to be of assistance to someone.
Thanks in advance to you all,
Gary

We are a 24x5 shop of about 40 people. Our quality department is 1 Quality manager, 1 inspector per shift and a Document Control Person (currently vacant)
As a side note, I've found a lot of really useful information here and I've learned a lot from the posts. Thanks Marc and everyone else for this valuable tool.

I wouldn’t change very much in the world of quality but what I would change is, remove the mystique, encourage everyone to actively take part not just those who understand the complexity of the words, break down the barriers and encourage those who believe quality involves more work to come in from the cold and understand the positive impact quality has on the whole organisation, not just the individual........

kennypa 2nd February 2006, 12:33 PM Hello all,
I am Ken Fagan, Quality Coordinator for a Transportation, Distribution, Fulfillment provider for the pharma industry. I am based in New Jersey, travel occasionally to our other facilities throughout the country.
Newly appointed to Quality. I have been with my company forever and have seen us grow every year for the last 23 years. (started at age 17 on the shipping dock)
My pet peeve is pet peeves, get over it already....
Just kidding....
Change is inevitable, why people still resist it is a mystery to me.
We have been doing a Quality job for years. Our client list and our accounting ledgers reflect that. I just have to make our documents reflect it now.
Regards, Ken

8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do?: Perhaps make it easier for others like myself who are relatively new to formal quality management systems to understand effective quality systems and how to develop and implement their own. Perhaps easier access to each other's quality manuals, procedures, etc. Hopefully this would promote more consistency in the world of quality systems and therefore, more universal acceptance, and ultimately, effectiveness. I chose to join this forum because it appears to perhaps be one of the best vehicles to achieve this.

Mark T 11th February 2006, 06:56 PM A quick intro
My name is Mark and I am a Quality Engineer for an Electronics Contract Manufacturer
I have been knocking around in this field for 15 Years.
I have to be honest in that until now I treated the world of Quality tools such as TQM TQC and the many American and Asian philosophies as passing phases (much like the latest gismo from JML). Useful in their own right environment and with lots of useful guidelines, theories and idea's but somehow never totally sat happy with the constantly changing product base that, well, constantly changed! It did leave me as a Realist and a great believer in Poke Yoke in all manner of applications. Times however have caught up with me and after living under a rock for far too long its time to see what I can from this pool of knowledge. In particular APQP.
I have no gripes, peeves or annoyances with anyone or anything but the clock on the wall.
As for changing things, well I'll sit here and read the map for a while, before I choose the route.
Not so quick after all.
Mark
Marc 12th February 2006, 04:11 PM Welcome! to each of you! It's slow here on the weekends, but things pick up during the week.

machine utilisation X human power utilisation X rejection rate =OEE
for the each shift
it is the simple definition for the OEE

7. Your pet peeve in quality
The idea that quality has to be taught. Skill have to be taught, not quality. If I set a ball on my kitchen floor and it rolls to other end of the kitchen because it is so unlevel, then I know I didn't get a quality job. If I buy a car and dies in a week, I didn't get quality. If the new blouse I buy falls apart at the first washing then I didn't get quality. We all recognize quality. Most people just don't care.
8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do
I would get rid of all of the gimmicks, ISO, Deming, Sigma, etc, and just make people accountable for their work. If the don't put out a quality project then they don't need to work for my company.

I wasn't always an owner. Started at the bottom and started up the ladder. Then got canned and started this company. I also work in and out of unions so I can help a few in their problems. The one problem I am having is developing this AS9003 to go with my Repair station certificate. It's tuff when your a one arm paper hanger at the moment.
But glad to have all that has answered

Thanks for your lovely welcome! I'm already getting frustrated with some of those difficult mathematical equations, eg spc type stuff. I haven't done maths for 20 years! Still it's an interesting learning curve for a born again student of 36!

You will see that there are a lot of options thrown around for you to decide on and that is why quality today still remains to be an issue of concern. Just as deciding to produce a product in such a manner also.

I am sure there is a step by step list somewhere that will tell me how to get 9001 certification but everything I've found so far assumes I know a whole lot about quality management already. My company has been asked to get certified by two very large potential customers, but our total size is 3 employees and we've been in business all of 5 months. I know I can throw money at this and get someone else to do it but I would like to find the least expensive route keeping in mind I have a **** of a lot of other things to do. Craig H. 27th February 2006, 04:03 PM Andrew, I don't want to get too far off topic in this thread, but you likely have a lot of the things you need already in place. If/when you have a question, use the search function here at the Cove - chances are very good that someone else has once asked the same question. If a search does not give you what you need, then you can post a thread or send a PM to someone who appears to know the area you have a question about.
You most definitely are in the right place, and I like your approach. Its going to be your system. Who better to design it?
Oh, yeah, and welcome!!!

Greta007 27th February 2006, 06:16 PM Andrew, First I want to welcome you aboard like everyone else has and then I am going to answer a question or present a question. if I am the person you were referring to about your big customer and they manufacture military equipment and looking for people like me, then there is a way you an I can get intouch with each other, but I am not sure how that was. You can go to my website (the link is in my Profile) and get the information.
Or have your customer/friend go there to get intouch with me.
But don't get inpatient in doing this ISO. It takes time and your company size seems to a little bigger then my company.

I am Works Engineering Manager for a concrete manufacturing company in the UK - dont think builders yard - think mass production & robots....
My background is in manufacturing (wide variety - electronics components, timber, automotive components (tier 1), machine tools & now concrete
I am apprentice trained in mechanical engineering, marine engineering & have a BSc degree in technology from the Open University + a diploma in design & Innovation.
Currently studying to make my degree into an Hons & geta diploma in systems.
I have an avid interest in all things problematical (keeps me in a job) & especially quality, reduction in variation, SPC, problem solving etc.
I have studied quality systems Taguchi, Shainin, Bhote, Deming, at a professional level & have been involved in TS16949 - especially the maintenance engineering section..
What I came looking for was the detail of the ILUO method of scoring training...a bit of help needed

5. Length of time in quality function - as mentioned above, I've had a "varied" engineering career to say the least. Total years in Quality has been about 5 + 1 month!;)
6. Something personal that sets you apart - I guess the professional thing that sets me apart is the various hats I've worn. The personal thing that sets me apart, to any PSU alumni that may happen by and read this, is the fact that I am in the Phyrst Phamly - a 38yr. old "sing-along" band in an Irish Pub, called "The Phyrst" of course, here at Penn State!:nopity:
7. Your pet peeve in quality - The quality professionals that "police" quality :whip: as opposed to "championing" quality to get other people to buy in to the whole phylosophy!:frust:
8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do? - :magic: I'd change the way people view the "QA Guys" and change the way Quality is implemented. I mean really, we're just here as the coaches on the Quality Team which ideally involves the entire company. It's up to everyone to participate and pull the whole system together. I've always viewed my role in Quality Engineering as the "Service Industry" part of the Manufacturing Industry.:agree1:
I guess that's me in a "nut" shell - no pun intended, really!:biglaugh:
...Sorry about all the "emoticons", but I've never used them before and it looked like fun!!:D I try not to be the stereotypical "engineer"...

Craig H. 15th March 2006, 05:19 PM Hi, Steve! And Welcome!
GMPbackground 15th March 2006, 07:15 PM I am new too. I love Irish music, quality, chemistry and art, not necessarily in that order.
What has been your greatest challenge in quality? Do you have experience in 6 Sigma?
Steve McQuality 16th March 2006, 09:15 AM Hi Jackie!:) I see we have the "West Coast/East Coast" time disconnect here...
I'm new to this whole "forum & discussion" thing too.
...My greatest challenge in Quality, Hmmm... At this point, it's getting back up to speed. I guess really though, the first company I worked for didn't have a quality department so the biggest challenge there was just starting the entire program from scratch - and right out of college too! Second company was going from no certification to ISO 9001 so it was upgrading an entire quality system from minimal coverage to a certifiable system. (both were successful!) Currently, it's taking a portion of our quality system - specifically vendor certification - and making it something useful that doesn't just contribute to "overhead" but actually creates data that is useful to Purchasing, Engineering, etc. I'm trying to create a good vendor survey and feedback loop that is simple (we're a small company) but generates useful data - that's why I joined "The Cove" to see if I could find help here!
6-Sigma experience - yep, I've had that too. I was a Certified Shanin Statistical Engineer and when I was with GE (design portion of my engineering and Ultrasound experience), I went through the 6-Sigma Green Belt training program. The two systems are similar and are both great for putting stastical significance into the old "SWAG" system of problem solving.
...and glad to hear you like Irish Music - tomorrow's our "big day" for singing all those Irish Tunes!:D It gives me a good excuse to leave work early!

Makeitsimple 17th March 2006, 07:26 PM Well, I started at this site looking for a good powerpoint presentation to use for training and found all kinds of neet topics. I will surely never get anything done now that I have so much to read. OK here is my backround...
1. Gordon Smith
2. RA/QA Manager
3. In QA since 1982 and in medical devices since 1989
4. NAI Tech Products is where I am now
5. Length of time in quality function = 24 years
6. I like to makeitsimple (hense my ID :lmao: )
7. I would say my pet peeve in quality is procedures longer than 7 pages
8. I would want all state universities to offer a B.A. or B.S. in Quality Assurance
Marc, thanks for an awsome form and BTW, I like the last name :applause:
RBassetto 17th March 2006, 07:27 PM Hello, I just tripped over your forum looking for ways to identify and document Continual Improvement better than we are now doing.
1. Risa
2. Been in the same company 18 years the last 3 in Quality
3. Manufacturer, T1 supplier to the Heavy Truck Automotive Industry
4. We are going for TS Audit in June.
5. 18 years 3 of them officially in the QA Department
6. I like my job, and the company I work for, believe it or not.
7. The lack of understanding of what a Quality System actually means to everyone in the company not just the QA staff
8. I think there is a lot of over analyzing and spending too much time on stuff that can be kept simple. The most efficient way to improve is common sense and responsibility.

2. My official title is Controller, but I actually do anything that anyone else doesn't do. This includes working with Accounting, IT, Quality, Operations, etc.
3. I am currently working in a Paper Mill but have worked in the Dairy Industry and Highway Construction
4. Mule Hide Manufacturing in Northern Wisconsin
5. Not currently in the quality function but work closely with them.
6. Currently hold Green Belt Six Sigma and will be training for my Black Belt later this year. Our company is following the concept of Six Sigma and Lean as part of everyones job. It is definately proving itself.
7. If it doesn't meet spec, don't ship it, it makes more work for everyone along the way.
8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do?

newISOgirl 22nd March 2006, 10:26 AM I am new to this forum.
Ran across this site via "ASK.com" searching for Turtle diagrams.

I'm a Lead Mold Inspector, Internal auditor and now the ISO admin.
Been with the same Tire company for 13 years.
Been in the Mold Shop division for almost 10 years.
Started in the computer room, then went into the Mold Shop running the CNC milling machines, handfinishing molds, and now in Quality dept.
I'm trying to improve our ISO systems. We are ISO 9001 (QMS) certified and we just got our ISO 14001 (EMS) certification. I have recently completed "Lead Auditor" training for QMS and will be taking the "Lead Auditor" training for EMS sometime this year.
Anyway, this is a great site and I have found many valuable postings already!

Raquel 29th March 2006, 05:09 PM 1. Name:
Raquel Zuñiga
2. Job Title or explanation of what you do
Well the name of my position is Product Engineer in a RF Filter Assembly Company however I think my real work is "Failure Reporter".
3. Industry you're in or have been in
I worked in a very small trunking radiocomunication company during 4 years. After that I started working on a RF Filter manufacturing company
4. Company you work for and location
SK SRL, Costa Rica
5. Length of time in quality function
I have been working for this company during 1 1/2 years, and I know now the importance of having at least basic knowledge in most of the systems, standards, math that Quality involves. So I don't know if I'm doing right but I am not a guru like most of you guys I'm starting learning about Quality. I am taking the CQE right now and I need some advice of you in what do you recommend in order to try to make the things right... not only report as I do now.
6. Something personal that sets you apart
I think I'm different from most of the engineers I know(at least here in my country) because I think that... if you want to improve something you first must know about it and for to know about the "things" you must be in the floor where the action is, you must know the people and give them the confidence to say and make things they think can improve.
7. Your pet peeve... in quality
Well I think I have a lot of things to learn before to answer this question, because I'm really a beginner on this.
However I want to say my pet peeve in this job... I want to expand my knowledge... and I want to improve myself and the process where I am involve...but sometimes I think there is no opportunity for a simple "failure reporter" which is trying to improve her knowledge and apply it but works in a terror-field environment...our managers had trouble saying things as they are to our Headquarter...so I guess they think somebody steal our brains...and maybe our mouths. :( :bonk:
8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do?
As most of the people who visit this great and very useful site to implement Quality and Statistics as courses since the High School... :applause:

lfzamora 6th April 2006, 01:25 PM As you can see my name is Luis Zamora and I work as a Quality Engineer receiving the PPAPs from new suppliers. I work on a Motors Manufacturing Company on Reynosa México. As I see that of you try to give a long describing, I will try to enlarge my introduction. I have 2 year working on this plant and there is not a guide to approve suppliers even there is nothing to follow theirs performance, so I think that we have a great challenge, so that could be my pet peeve but I have already stopped some projects because they have not met all the basic requirements. Something personal could be the fact that I work on a Company that is not placed where my family live. I do not purport to change the quality's world before I would like to meet people that have the same interests and later to invite others to join us.

Job Title: Corporate Quality Manager
Industry: Fabrication and steel stamping
Company: Dowding Industries
Time in Quality: 10.5 years
Personal: Happily married with 4 teenagers (13 - 17)
Pet Peeve: It is always quality's fault
Change: Change the name to show that quality department is there to assist and help. In the days of lean manufacturing, you cannot be overseeing every process and therefore cannot ensure quality. You can only give the operators the tools. The people that make the parts are responsible for the overall quality of the product.
Thanks for this tool!! I also sometimes feel very alone when trying to implement new processes. I have already gotten some ideas from the threads I have read and hope to have some things to post soon to get others advice.
littlekheong 17th April 2006, 09:14 AM Currently working as SQE and dealing a lot with suppliers related to stamping parts. Just started to involve in PPAP and APQP thus would like to learn more about PPAP and APQP which is the most critical items in automotive world.
Very less experience in APQP elements (PFMEA, Control Plan, 8Ds report, etc)

CraigT 23rd April 2006, 03:15 AM 1. Name
As per ID
2. Job Title or explanation of what you do
QA & Technical Manager for an Oilfield equipment manufacturer. "Technical" part means all the stuff that the others can't/won't do ends up on my desk
3. Industry you're in or have been in
Started as Fitter/Turner in Aerospace/Nuclear manufacturing then last 10 years in oilfield equipment.(API thinks its rocket science!!!)
4. Company you work for and location
API licenced company in Qatar. Dual registered API Q1 / ISO 9001:2000 with 4 product specification Licences.
5. Length of time in quality function
Since birth??.....was working and partly involved in the 3rd company in the UK to cert certification to BS5750. Last ten years has been develop, implement and maintain a system from scratch in a new company
6. Something personal that sets you apart
I can (and do) apply logic to everything - great for work, but the wife hates it.
7. Your pet peeve(s) in quality
Only one??? Lots to say here!!
Having to write the management inputs / quality policies etc for the owners of the company. I write.... they sign. An exercise in scoring a tick with the auditors.... hate the lack of support / involvement by owners/directors (guys... I have really tried my best and failed with these people.... please don't blame me).
Also hated the fact that API moved towards ISO 9001 with thier last edition of Q1. Its gone from specific oilfield QMS to generic QMS IMHO. Recently sent the QM to API for review and approval for a minor change at it came back with 17 NC's!!! (must have been reviewed by one of these "three day course" experts they have there - oh forget to tell you....our QM is not written word for word from ISO 9001!!!)
8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do?
Scrap generic QMS - all organisations are different. They should be audited on the QMS being effective for the scope of THAT system and not a case of meeting the requirement of 4.x.x.a of a ISO standard.
John Perry 23rd April 2006, 06:18 PM I have really gotten a lot out of this forum and all of you who participate. I was curious, though, who all of you are and what you do. How about letting us know a little bit about you and your background?

8. Everyone working under the title of "Quality" should have to have to earn a CQE certification....Well maybe just a CQT would be ok:-)

reigelser 25th April 2006, 10:51 PM Hi all,
here a quick introduction of myself after enjoying allready tons of outstanding information in this forum: my name is Joachim and I am a production supervisor in a capital goods manufacturing company. I have no official quality job title, but I am directly involved in all quality issues with regards to my product. I try to apply tools and methods as described in our company policies but also things that I learn while studying (MoS) and reading thru these threads in this forum.
The most frustrating thing is to see what methods are out there and what real life looks like in my organization:bonk:...but we are getting better! Everyday a little bit!!:magic:
Cheers

I was literally bribed into doing a Q2000 conversion at my last job, with no knowledge of ISO or QMS. I read alot, learned about Elsmar Cove, and we did great. I learned to love the whole "Quality" universe. ( Evidence of hidden head trauma?) But like a drunk date--after the fun was over--I got kicked to the curb without cab fare.
I have found a new home, in a small company, filled with a quality minded leadership. It's an opportunity to document a new QMS from the ground up before their impending growth makes it cumbersome. I hope to share the experience here, as I draw on your collective wisdom to refresh my memory.
I look forward to the experience.

7. My pet peeve in quality is the thought that a Quality Department can somehow magically make things better with new forms, new processes, new people. A garden does not become better with the addition of new plants--it only grows well in a good soil base.
8. If I could change the world of quality, what would I do? I'm here at Elsmar Cove to find out if change is possible.
Thanks Marc for fixing registration problem!

Am I doing this just for the auditor, or is anyone else going to take any notice?
8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do?
Somehow standardize the registrars - yes, I know they're already accredited but still the standards vary significantly, and they also have a vested interest in the business since we are their customer! Ideally a registration audit would be more like a driving test, done by someone who's not paid by the company they're auditing.

3. Industry you're in or have been in - Currently, I work on a ISO 9001:2000 registered gov't contract (about 250 people) which is tasked with protecting the Medicare trust fund (i.e. the contract looks for fraud and takes appropriate actions up to and including referral to the OIG or FBI for prosecution.). I have also worked for an ISO 9001:2000 registered immigration contract and conducted quality audits for over 200 USCIS sites across the US & US territories. Before this, I also worked on an immigration contract in helping ensure quality in the clerical processing of applications for naturalization and permanent residency (think millions of applications a year). I am also an ASQ CQM.
4. Company you work for and location - mid-size government contractor (approx. 2000 people) in the DC area.

8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do? - I would like to see quality built into every part of a business from the ground up instead of it being an after thought or a quick bandaid solution after there's a problem.

Absolutely. That attitude is learned, and usually built on fear of reprisal. It is much easier if we gang up on that ugly old problem instead of ganging up on each other.
Oh, and welcome to all of you. I look forward to your posts!
Shubailat 18th May 2006, 04:34 PM :bigwave:
Hello everyone! I have been using this web site for many years. I decided to join in and throw my 2 cents as everybody else. I will use the suggested format:
1. Name: Omar Shubailat
2. Job Title or explanation of what you do: Senior Quality Engineer, I am working with our Engineering group to help as a team to bring about a meaningful APQP process. I also support as the only quality personnel with adjacent plant to our small company's headquarters
3. Industry you're in or have been in: I worked in appliances industry (assembly and partial sheet metal and case manufacturing) in Amman-Jordan. In the past 6 years I worked in Automotive industry as in Tier 1 and Tier 2 companies. Never worked for OEM directly or never was further than Tier 2. I am exposed to Stamping, Machining, Poly Urethane (interior), Assembly, and recently Rubber
4. Company you work for and location: I work now in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Rubber and stamping industry
5. Length of time in quality function: I have been exposed to quality sense I started my B.Sc. In 1990 as my field is Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering/ Quality. I have had my M.Sc. In Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering/ Major Quality from Wayne State University-Detroit
6. Something personal that sets you apart: Soccer, walking by the Lake, swimming, reading and discuss different issues
7. Your pet peeve in quality: I look at all documentation procedures, i.e. 8-D, 5-Why, APQP, PPAP, P/D-FMEA, Control Plan, P-Diagram, ISO standards and certification, TS 16949 procedures and certification, Fishbone, Kepner-Tregeo, DD&W (Dig Deep & Wide), Flow Charts, Pareto graphs, Quality alerts, SPC tools… and many more. All those are treated as the goal is to fill them rather using the trail in order to organize your steps and plan. I see quality people fixated on filling them rather using them as a guide line to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do? I would show the whole world how much we use quality tools in our personal life, but when it comes to work atmosphere we think of it through tunnels rather than the big picture. For example, when I deliver a training in SPC I always remind the parents, specially, about how we use SPC in our daily life: I say to a mom or dad, if you have 2 children one does not settle and always jumps around while the other one always calm and quite. You would be screaming at the active kid asking him/ her to settle down. IF for any chance that kid was calm and causing no problems you would first thing put your hand on his/ her forehead and check her skin color while checking the temperature. Even though you would like to have that kid calmer but you would be worried if that kid acted as you wish. This is the spirit of SPC there.

Wes Bucey 19th May 2006, 01:12 AM Welcome, everybody!:bigwave:
Like Marc, I am always thrilled to see visitors from throughout the world. We hope that we can all help bring a little more attention to bear on the quality of goods and services we produce. Most of all, we hope that we can take the lessons we learn here and pass them on throughout our organizations - especially to those who do NOT have "quality" in their job titles.
It is important to consider ourselves more as teachers than police. As W. E. Deming, the late quality guru, used to say, an organization has the best chance of excelling when its leaders and members have "profound knowledge" of what they do and how they interact with their customers, suppliers, regulators, and even competitors.

Woody-3366 21st May 2006, 12:31 AM 1. Name
Bill (short for William), Aussie.
2. Job Title or explanation of what you do
I'm an official sadist - after 20 years of Quality Management in the Auto Industry there is no more appropriate title.
3. Industry you're in or have been in
Automotive - Toyota, Ford, GM, DC and Mitsubishi mostly.
4. Company you work for and location
I've worked for a number of global suppliers in plastics, lighting systems, tooling, castings (Al foundry) and metal pressings as well as sealing and dampening systems (NVH)
5. Length of time in quality function
It's a life sentance.
6. Something personal that sets you apart
There are a few things, one is my belief in people. I've seen ordinary people rise to extraordinary levels of performance and achieve outcomes that can reduce a grown man to tears. Second is a down to earth approach to make systems work for people, not the other way around as so many "so called" experts would prefer.
7. Your pet peeve in quality
Too many highly paid theoretical experts making a mess of industry. A degree doesn't make anyone capable of doing this job - it's listening and doing that make the difference. Too many talkers!
8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do?
a) Introduce a world wide accreditation program for Quality Consultants, 90% would fail.
b) Find a better international terminology for Quality Manager that is not a "fad term" or "wanker phrase" - a good quality manager doesn't manage quality - good quality is the result, we manage systems, culture hearts, minds and knowledge.

4. J L French based in Essex, England. Likely to be somebody else soon as in process of company being sold
5. Only been working in quality for 9 months - prior to that I was in a supervisory role on shop floor ;)
6. Very charismatic, don't take no for an a nswer, not afraid to stand up for myself, good communicator with nearly 10 years experience in the same company so know procedures and personnell
7. How it is always qualitys fault when non conforming products go out the door - we dont make them!!!!!!!
8. Ensure responsibility for mistakes was accepted by those who get it wrong, also ensure senior management owned the procedures (as they should!!!!!!)

mikoyan 8th June 2006, 06:31 PM My name is Ken, I've been a Quality Engineer for 12 years now (time flies when you're having fun). I am currently working for a company named Horiba Instruments in Ann Arbor, Michigan as a Quality/Reliability Engineer. I've been here for 6 years. I enjoy movies, books, models and my action figure collection. My biggest pet peeve in quality is people who throw around all the buzz words (especially customers) but don't quite understand what they mean or what they are trying to accomplish with a system. I think I am liked and maybe respected, but sometimes not sure. The thing I would changed in the quality world - see my pet peeve.

I wonder if Bacon is the successor to a clipping service which used to have its offices in 14 East Jackson building, Chicago. Back in the 60's (and much earlier, of course), companies and individuals used to pay clipping services to hire readers to read through ALL publications, looking for any mention (good, bad, or indifferent) of the company name, the person's name, or product name.
My company subsequently owned that building for a few months in the 70's while we were refinancing a small casualty company that owned it. One of the vacant office suites had been the home of Bacon, a clipping service. In going through the abandoned personal property of the tenant, I fell heir to one of the "desk easels" the readers used to hold the reading material at a comfortable angle and still use it 35 years later!
