Hi everyone.
We are implementing ISO14001 and have our phase 1 assessment at the end of June. We have heard/assumed that as with QS9000 (which we currently hold)that we should encourage our supplier base to consider ISO14001. Under QS9000 we have to actively encourage our suppliers to work towards some QMS standard. Is this the same for 14001 and if so which clause of the standard covers this.
Any help would be appreciated.

Nothing specifically requires suppliers to adhere to 14K except if you guys do like a lot of other folks and say "If you don't do 14K we buy our stuff elsewhere".

You are only required to manage those aspects that you can personally control. You can address others that you are attempting to exert some influence over if you wish, and show how you are doing it.

Most of the environmental systems that I audited were making useless surveys about their suppliers environmental concerns. How many environmental management programs are being developed in your company? Do your suppliers can help you with those programs? They can be team members for your recycling, reusing, raw materials change/reduction teams? And they are experts that can help you ?
