The NEW — Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Fourth Edition manual, developed by Chrysler Group, Ford Motor Company and General Motors, will officially be released on March 1, 2006. AIAG will begin taking advance orders for this manual on Feb. 24 (please note that advance orders will not ship until Tuesday, Feb. 28).
Updated to align with the automotive process approach, the PPAP manual defines requirements for the production part approval process, as defined by Chrysler Group, Ford Motor Company and General Motors.
The PPAP Fourth Edition includes the following changes:
Alignment of PPAP to the ISO/TS 16949:2002 process approach
Relocation of Customer Specific Instructions to appropriate Web sites to provide current requirements
Update of Truck OEM requirements and moved to Appendix H
Revised Part Submission Warrant (PSW)
Updated specific PPAP requirements, including:
Materials reporting and polymeric identification requirements in the design record
Process capability index usage (Cpk and Ppk)
The definition and approval catalog parts and definition of black box parts
Modified customer notification and submission requirements to align with OEM requirements
Clarified and communized Appendices C, D, and E to match the PPAP reporting requirements
Revised Tire Appendix to allow OEM specification of applicability and to eliminate duplications with allowances already provided in the PPAP requirements
Reorganized and updated Appendix F to stress the importance of the Bulk Materials Checklist
Revised Glossary to be consistent with the updates in the text
