Thanks, Sidney. I just got the 4th edition manual yesterday, and I'm in the process of doing a comparison to the 3rd edition, and I'll post what I've found when I'm finished. One interesting thing I found almost immediately is a redefinition of "should." In the 3rd edition, "should" is defined as a "mandatory requirement" with some wiggle room for methodology (I don't have the manuals here so I can't give a direct quote); in the 4th edition, "should" defines a "recommendation."

A a tier one supplier qc person, I find it all the more bewildering that DCX's PSO 5th ed. which came out in the last year has over 200 pages to digest and Ford Phased PPAP v1.2 has recently been updated all the while knowing thet 'they' were on a team putting their 4th ed. PPAP together!?!? What happened to"AIAG":mg:

THIS is automotive madness! How can one person keep their wits and their ethics knowing they have to put it all in a neat little "package" and for heavens sake, don't put in the wrong buyer's name on the PSW or they'll tell you to resubmit! ( Yup, that really happened):truce:

OK, it's the weekend, I'll just relax and spend quality family time pouring over this PPAP 4th edition stuff.:frust:

The hang up I have is that MY signature is on that document. I am on the line, and I'd bet not a one of you can tell me how to "truely" comply w/ all new MSA's and the 18 other time taking tasks with out being creative and keep one's ethics in tact. 3 PPAP's a day would not keep me up to speed and yet i must run harder!

Maybe I shouldn't complain and just be a consultant!

Now we need more lawyers to give us proper definitions of 'should"!

BTW- What's the deal with adding IMDS #'s? (Besides the obvious)

Process Sign-Off Edition 5.6 Manual was released 04/03/2008.

The announcement included the following details:
"The new PSO Edition 5.6 Manual is now available. You can access the electronic version (including forms) online under References on the Chrysler Supplier Portal. Hard copies can be ordered by contacting Lanier Professional Services at (248) 564-4748.
PSO 5.6 includes the following updates and changes (specific changes can be found in the change log at the back of the manual):
1) Corrected errors and mistakes in PSO 5.5
2) Updated the manual to reflect the current S.Q. Organization and procedures, including the new Optimized Part Metrics
3) Some minor requirements changes to reflect best practices and team-requested additions
4) Improved readability
As the new manual is intuitive and the basic flow of the PSO process has not changed, additional training WILL NOT be required. Specialists and Suppliers should begin utilizing the new manual immediately (although ongoing PSOs may be completed with 5.5, as needed). If you have any questions, please contact your Chrysler Advance Supplier Quality Specialist. "
