Where is are the pdf & doc files kept? I have never been able to find it... I can only get to it when I find a link.

Do you mean the list of all documents attached to posts? Click on the green "Post Attachments List" at the top of the page:

I may have looked smart, but... I have to admit that earlier this week I was searching for the same function. After spending 10~15 minutes searching through a bunch of threads, I finally looked up and there it was... :bonk:

There is also the 'old' pdf_files directory (http://Elsmar.com/pdf_files/) which has LOTS of free files.

I think it would be extremely helpful if we were able to publish this list along with a description of what each file contained. When these are originally posted as part of a thread, the exact file title is immaterial, but when we look through the list, it very inefficient to open each file to see what it contains because some of the file names are so cyptic.

A very good idea, but I'd have to hire someone to do it and it would have to be an ongoing job.

I have gone through many, many (a couple hundred, at least) attachments and renamed them but found it was a never ending battle.

It's like thread titles - Many are very vague so I retitle threads every day. But retitling threads is easy. To change an attachment name I (or a moderator) have to download the attachment from the post, edit the post to remove the attachment, rename the file on my computer and re-upload the attachment with the 'better' or 'correct' name. It's very time consuming.

It would be nice if the vBulletin people put more importance on attachments, but they practically do none. Even the FilesList is a 'hack' someone wrote.

I have not seen anything that allows for a file description. Yes - That would be nice. But then again, if folks don't see the importance of naming an attachment with an appropriate name, I'm not convinced a file description would fare better.

If you click on the link in post 5 above you will be taken to a directory listing. Just scroll down and there are lots of files listed. Just click on a file name (right click on a PC?) and the file will download to your drive. There are also sub-directories there with various files in them.

The link is on the main site page on a 'button' labelled Free Files. It used to be in the header here, but that's another story. Just bookmark the link. Technically the url is:

I'll be changing the header graphic in the near future. It will include a link to that directory. I may do a text link before I change the graphics, but it's in the works.
