I am looking for information if and how DRBFM be used for software projects. And how does DRBFM fit into CMMI framework ?

And Is there any document comparing CMMI and DRBFM ?

I worked with Tatsuhiko Yoshimura for over 3 years and totally understand DRBFM. I retired from GM after 33+ years and Tatsuhiko Yoshimura has agreed to continue mentoring me after retirement (I have a letter of recommendation). I also understand how to analysis algorithms. For Haughey from GM, I work for a Tier 1 and have seen the GM DRBFM format. If you say you follow Yoshimura, how come you rank Severity, Occurrence, and Detection? The Yoshimura model does not. I thought DFMEA identified high risk, DRBFM identified all risk related to design changes, therfore ranking is not encouraged. Although, we have seen instances where Severity is ranked on a scale of A-B-C.

GM's training actually states that ranking of severity is not required, however some of our suppliers and internal groups wanted the option. The format of GM's DRBFM (excel) file allows it to meet AIAG, SAE and ISO (FMEA) requirements if desired. GM has engineering divisions all over the world and some wanted the ability to rank RPN. The focus is always on the detailed discussion, not the form.

I disagree with your response. The GM representative mandated we rank Severity, Occurrence, and Detection. GM was so concerned about format, we never got to the discussion.

Thanks for the feedback. You are correct in the posting that the detailed discussion is the most important result and all concerns require attention. DRBFM has been a growing process at GM and the change in culture is very difficult and passions run deep.
