DiplomaGirl 5th April 2006, 12:22 PM Hi, I'm working full time but also doing the Institute of Quality Assurance Diploma in Quality Assurance via Distance Learning means.
I wondered if there were any other Brits in this forum in the same boat? Or even full time students of course appreciated !

Don't know if I can help, but I designed and presented the Quality module for the Aberdeen University Project Management MSc course over the last 2-3 years. Give me a shout if you want a second opinion about anything.
All the best

Oh thank you, that is really kind. I will be in touch via Private Message at some point today or tomorrow if that's okay.
noons 14th April 2006, 12:34 PM Hi well I am in the UK and am about to do D1 & D2 exams in June, so I'll be
no help for your D3 but would like to discuss the course as I'm a distance learning student and its not easy not working in quality yet.

Good luck. I should imagine it is difficult if you don't work in Quality yet. I work in Quality but with an arty background. I find trying to think like an engineer very difficult. I.e. logically. My brain is intuition creative. Engineers are logical creative.
My advice would be to download from the Past Papers on the IQA education part of the website. Oh and buy 'Statistics for Dummies' if you did not do Maths at A-level or University.
noons 17th April 2006, 02:26 PM Thanks for that and I will look for that book. I have down loaded old papers from
the IQA site, just to see what I may be in for.
Thanks again
Ady12 4th September 2006, 08:57 AM Hi there just recieved my last exam back D6 - pass.
Only the delightful project to go now - if I can help I will if requred. Best of luck to you all.
Nette 4th September 2006, 12:40 PM Hi
I spent 3 years studying the Diploma part time a couple of years ago. I actually completed it in 2001. I passed by the way.
I can't guarantee that I will be able to remember anything but please feel free to ask any questions.
Ady12 - Congratulations on passing your exam. What are you doing your project on?
Ady12 20th September 2006, 04:26 AM I work in a low volume high value high change market - where we have heavily outsourced all manufacture - we only carry out integration and system test now.
So my project is very much the quality control for low volume - esp control plans - however I am starting to get intrested in the human factor side as all of our products are hand assembled.
Any thoughts.... greatly appreciated.
QualityTech 20th September 2006, 07:42 AM Hello All,
I have also completed D1 & D2 and about to start D3, also by distance learning.
In fact I have recently switched to a different source (QMT via UCE) because I was not happy with the previous provider (the D2 exam asked a question which wasn't even covered by the course material!).
The main thing I've learnt so far on this course is that you have to read as much as you can outside of the material provided.
This forum is ideal place to start - I've picked up much useful advice.
Nette 22nd September 2006, 11:01 AM "So my project is very much the quality control for low volume - esp control plans - however I am starting to get intrested in the human factor side as all of our products are hand assembled."
So what are you going to base your project on? The control side of bought in goods or the control of hand assembly?
Also what industry are you in? Do you use control plans at the moment?
Ady12 22nd September 2006, 12:08 PM Work in capital equipement manufacture - semi conductors.
Looking to take the project into the hand assembly control side of things - peice part manufacture has been covered from every angle - its the human interaction / control which has the greatest influence on my working life.
As toy our use of Control Plans - none what so ever internally, however there has been a historic and still current expectation that supplier of some products should have completed them - however the focus is wrong in my opinion.
Nette 26th September 2006, 12:29 PM No quite sure which line of human factors and control of assembly you want to go down.
If I am understanding it right your background infromation would be people like Maslow and Henry Ford. Could be way off here if I'm not understanding right.
There is a forum on the cove under Manufacturing Process Topics & Business Systems - Human Factors & Ergonomics in Engineering. There isn't many posts yet as it has only just been started but this might be the best area to post your questions.
Not really my area though.
Control plans I do use so if you want any help with them let me know.
Ady12 28th September 2006, 08:51 AM Thanks for your input. After carefull review I'm going to drop the Human factors direction to large a topic, one however which has significant potential to delivery impressive returns. Prehaps something for a thesis....
Back to Control Plans I will be purely looking at the implementation within our supply chain for products generally assemblies not peice parts however need to consider what we call 'critical parts'.
Any thoughts on the process behine control plans - collection of the inputs (D and P FMEAs) etc would be insightful. Esp as we as a company are week on FMEA activities - to the point of almost no existent.
On of the outputs I want to find from the control plan is vendor capability / confidence in supply will meet out expectations - and if not possible we are aware.
