We are changing supplier for a substantial cost savings. The supplier has submitted a PPAP with their part (nut). There is no design change.

What are my requirements to GM as far as rePPAPing?

I'm all alone, my QA Mgr fired, QE quit, contract QE quit.

Help

It appears that there have been some personnel changes. In my opinion, I would keep that PPAP Package on file, in case the Customer wants it. Or on second thought you could contact GM SQA Representative and ask them.

Welcome to the Cove :D . I'd would be drinking only bottled water while at work if I were you. Sounds like they're dropping like flies.

I'm not sure if there's a GM-specific requirement in this regard, but the default PPAP requirements call for customer notification of the change, and the customer might require PPAP submission.

On page 13 of the PPAP manual it states: The organization shall notify the authorized customer representative of any planned changes to the design, process, or site…. Upon notification and approval of the proposed change by the authorized customer representative, and after change implementation, PPAP submission is required unless otherwise specified.
In table 3.1, it specifies that a change in supplier for parts, non-equivalent materials, or services are included.

Jim stated that the customer might require PPAP. As I read the manual, I would plan on PPAP. The default is to submit. Because the supplier has already PPAPed, GM might waive it, but I would not count on that.

I should have said that the requirements I was referring to are from the 3rd Edition PPAP manual, which is in effect until June 1 of this year. With regard to the 4th Edition, there is no default other than notification, but I agree that a submission will probably be required.

Having gone through this in the past with GM - It's a safe bet that they require a PPAP. The submission to you is pretty much meaningless in GM's eyes. The last thing you want is for them to find out you switched suppliers AFTER there is a failure at one of their plants or in the field.

Yes welcome from me as well.
GM might want to see your suppliers PPAP but I am sure that they will want to at least know that you have changed.
OF course GM will want the saving, or at least a generous part of it:rolleyes:
