View Full Version : What's IMDS? International Material Data System (automotive) Cordon 17th May 2006, 02:34 PM Google = IMDS International Material Data System (automotive) Can anyone elaborate on this futher for me? :thanks: Marc 17th May 2006, 03:20 PM The IMDS is the automotive industry material data system. It is a joint development of Audi, BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, Opel, Porsche, VW and the Swedish firm Volvo. More manufacturers have joined and talks are being held with others regarding their participation in IMDS. In the IMDS (International Material Data System), all materials used for car manufacture are archived and maintained. Only in this way is it possible to meet the obligations placed on car manufacturers, and thus on their suppliers, by national and international standards, laws and regulations. JRaghavendran 1st June 2006, 03:39 PM Have any body created any new MDS with the release 4.0 version of the IMDS? I am told that information on the "pre-consumer" and "post-consumer" recycled content has been added in the IMDS per the requirement, referenced in PPAP 4th Edition. I would like to see some precedents before answering to my customer who is demanding that we redo all existing MDS with the "pre-consumer" and "post-consumer" recycled content information. Any knowledge / experience sharing highly appreciated. knight_sirk 25th July 2006, 06:07 AM Have any body created any new MDS with the release 4.0 version of the IMDS? Actually, this function was already implemented since IMDS Release 3.0 There's a sample here: see New IMDS Function: Material Dependent Recyclate Information (for IMDS release 3.0) (http://www.mdsystem.com/html/data/user_doc_recycling_en.pdf) Changes in Release 4.0 regarding recyclate information is to apply the new recyclate handling to the classifications 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, including their sub classifications: Steel and iron materials Light alloys, cast and wrought alloys Heavy metals, cast and wrought alloys Special metals Polymer materials see The new Release 4.0 (http://www.mdsystem.com/html/en/sys_vers_inhframe-5_rel40_en.htm) |
