Hello All:

I just read an article, in the July 2006 Quality Digest Magazine, about ISO 9001 requirements related to product. The artilce was written by Jack West and it titled, "Output Matters."

The article was interesting to me and provides a list of ISO 9001 requirements related to product quality.

Thanks for posting that.

Even though I don't think Mr. West has always been in the right, I think this article is right on target.

Numerous times, customers receive "junk" from ISO 9001 certified suppliers because they fail to CLEARLY specify what they are buying. Supplier's ability to meaningfully execute 7.2 depends on the customer's ability to deliver on 7.4.

On the other hand, I think most of us agree that the concept of the ISO 9001 Standard provides a strong correlation between the quality of the product and the QMS deployed. The problem is that ISO 9001 is not effectively applied, in a high percentage of cases.

This reminds me of the old adage that in the past you could manufacture a life preserver from concrete according to ISO 9001.
Now you cannot due to clause 7.2.1 b) requirements not stated by the customer but necessary for specified or intended use, where known, :lmao:
