Hello everyone,
I'm a mechanical engineer and was in quality in a manufacturing and automotive firm. I'm currently working for a software co in the SEPG team.At first I felt it was very exicting, but now I'm feeling that it is more of a review process. We just review all the processes defined. I'm not able to understand the challenges in the job. Practically I do not see any of my inputs in the success of a project.
I'm getting ideas to change my job.I want all the members here in software quality to share their views and challanges they have faced in SEPG.

I'm sorry you haven't gotten a reply. Unfortunately there aren't many software folks who visit here, or people using SEPG, or so it appears.

Hi Andy,

There are lot of challenges that can pop up when you work in SEPG. some of them are :-

1) Process definition- Process definition for the new types of projects that can come to the organization.
2) Process automation - i.e Looking for tools for effectively collecting and managing the data.

3)updating the process documentation such as PPB etc.
4) Ensure that alignment to QMS of the organization is maintained.

A Software Engineering Process Group (SEPG) is an organization's focal point for software process improvement activities. These individuals perform assessments of organizational capability, develop plans to implement needed improvements, coordinate the implementation of those plans, and measure the effectiveness of these efforts. Successful SEPGs require specialized skills and knowledge of many areas outside traditional software engineering.
