View Full Version : Closed or Resolved: Edit function slow??
Wes Bucey 30th August 2006, 12:12 PM I find "edit" function seems to take forever to launch - anyone else see the same thing? Could you please try to edit some post and tell me if the lag before a new box appears seems over long?
Added in edit: Still seemed to take longer than bringing up a "quote" reply, but it does seem to have speeded up for me. I will switch to the Firefox browser and see if I am just having an Internet Explorer issue.
Marc 30th August 2006, 12:13 PM Very fast for me. It may be an ajax issue.
Thread moved to public forum to garner more feeedback.
From CarolX - this is an edit to Marc's post - no problem here
CarolX 30th August 2006, 01:07 PM I tried a few things - edited Marc's post without any issues.
Changed the title of this thread by adding an extra "?" - no problem.

Is this question for Moderators only?
Edit: Just tested. A matter of seconds.

No - just looking to test the function to make sure it's working ok.
Bill Ryan 30th August 2006, 02:17 PM I tried editing a post of mine that I had written earlier this morning and it never did "connect". After I backed out and retried, the editing function took off as usual.

I am using Explorer 6-SP 2. Are you using the Beta of Explorer 7? (Just thinking if that might be a potential cause.)
Added Edit: I didn't have any problems this morning when I checked the forum out at about 5:15 AM today, 8/30/06. I use IE 6-SP 2 there to.
Added 13:41 Hours:Could it be a "Internet connection" issue? I use cable at home T1 at work

Added in edit: still a longer pause when clicking "edit" than clicking "quote" using Firefox browser instead of IE

The magnitude of the delay between "edit" and "quote" to bring up a new screen is about 2:1
CarolX 30th August 2006, 02:48 PM I'm not sure what an "Ajax" issue is -
Ajax (programming)
From Wikipedia
Ajax, shorthand for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML, is a web development technique for creating interactive web applications. The intent is to make web pages feel more responsive by exchanging small amounts of data with the server behind the scenes, so that the entire web page does not have to be reloaded each time the user makes a change. This is meant to increase the web page's interactivity, speed, and usability.
Until today - Ajax was always something I used to clean my bathtub.
Marc 30th August 2006, 04:30 PM Is this question for Moderators only?
Nope - I put it in a public forum for public feedback.
Claes Gefvenberg 30th August 2006, 05:11 PM No problems over here, and I'm still a modem jockey, remember (Cable finally on it's way, though)?

A lot of websites are using it and vBulletin has started using it in a lot of places. It significantly reduces server load and bandwidth.
