I saw a lot of members posting about wanting to visit egypt, and since i'm egyptian, and abroad, i thought maybe i could tell you a bit about it

Touristic locations in egypt and what to see there:

Cairo (situated on the nile delta, the capital and the largest city in africa with a population of more than 18 million)

pyramids, musuem, coptic monuments, islamic monuments, roman monuments, nile, mokatam hill view, cairo tower, cultural events in the opera house, and al sawy cultural wheel in Zamalek area, nightclubs, bars, dicotheques, cabarets, casinos, cafe's, restaurants

Alexandria (situated north of egypt on the mediteranean sea, second largest city, well known for once having two wonders of the world - alexandria library and lighthouse)

beaches populated by locals primarily, roman sites, sea food, coptic sites, cafe's, a beautiful sea front, and some diving in certain areas

Sinai (maybe separated into two areas, north and south, where the north-east meets with the jordanian, saudi and israeli borders at taba)

Most of the fun is in the south of sinai in Dahab (gold) and Sharm El Sheikh Magnificent beaches, diving and snorkling, mountain hiking and climbing, desert safari, night clubs, cafe's, hotels, a great choice for both back packers
and luxury travellers at affordable prices

Red Sea Resorts ( the eastern side of egypt that looks on the red sea, has been undergoing massive touristic developement lately, with several resorts opening offering world class services)

Limited activities, but warm nice weather, good for snorkling, fishing and tanning primarily

Luxor and Aswan (far south of egypt on the nile bank, If you like the pharohs and history, that's definitely the place to go)

Full of amazing pharonic monuments all over, warm in winter, blazing hot in summer

Western desert

Safaris, oasis, desert life etc.

Currency in egypt = Egyptian Pound EGP , 1$ = 6 EGP

to get an idea about the regular prices (not ones in tourist traps)
1 bigmac combo = 16EGP
1 pack of marlboros = 7.5EGP
1 pack of egyptian cigarrettes (cleopatra) = 2 EGP
1 pepsi can regular = 2 EGP
1 Gallon of regular unleaded fuel = 4.5 EGP
