View Full Version : Internal Audits of All Facilities World Wide Before the Certification Audit
yulaev 25th September 2006, 07:22 PM  We are an international company with main offices in USA and offices in UK, Singapore and Japan. We are in process of getting ISO-9001 Certification. I was told that we need to complete at least one round of internal audits and management reviews.
We had our first internal audit in the USA (main) office. Do we also need to execute internal audits in the rest of the WW sites before we can schedule the Certification Audit?
Thanks,
YY

Yes you will be required (by most Registrars) to have completed at least 1 Complete Internal Audit and a Management Review discussion (meeting).
Jeff Frost 25th September 2006, 07:59 PM It depends if you are planning to have all world wide offices listed on your registration certification. I work for a multi national corporation and each business location is certified independently of the others because of the differing customer requirements.
If your USA location is the only one to be listed on certification then you need to take no additional action related to the upcoming audit. If one of your other offices is a supplier to the USA office then they should be approved per the requirements of clause 7.4.1 of the standard.
If all world wide offices are to be listed on certification then yes you must meet the requirements of the standard before audit.

As Jeff has stated above. It depends on what the Corporation's Goals are for Registration. You may want to look at the following website at IAF Guide 62 for Corporate Registration: http://www.iaf.nu/ it is free to download.
I missed the question regarding World Wide Internal Audits. If you are seeking "individual" Company registration you will still need to complete a set of Internal Audits and a Management Review meeting. If it is going to be a Corporate (worldwide) Registration the individual requirements apply, in my opinion.

Typically, a registrar will want you to cover all your processes and related requirements (from ISO 9001). This is to prevent the finding of 'majors' due to an issue that could have been found by the internal audits. So, whether you do a number of audits or a 'whole system' audit, that should be your goal. Furthermore, if you have a number of sites these audit results will factor into the agenda for management review, whether it's for all sites or carried out at each site individually.

If you want to pay me I'll fly up to Singapore and Japan and do an audit for you...I'm closer than you :D What a great excuse for a trip...I have been hammering my boss for two years to go to Holland and audit a storage facility utilized by one of our contractors.
Seriously though, it will depend on your certificate (as stated by others). If they are on the scope then they will need to be audited!!!
potdar 26th September 2006, 02:58 AM Nothing new to add really. Just a summary. Everything you want certified, all processes at all locations, need to be audited internally and reviewed at least once, either at one go or separately before the certification audit is scheduled.
Just for clarification : If a location is for warehousing only, no purchase / manufacturing / design .. then these activities wont be covered in the audit at that location. Only warehousing and related activities carried out there.
Shut and close.
atitheya 26th September 2006, 03:22 AM I agree with all above. A complete audit of the offices covered in the scope of certification is necessary.
In addition I would suggest you close the loop before certification audit. That is, ensure that Corrective / Preventive actions are taken before the certification audit. You may find some way to verify the Corrective / Preventive actions, either by follow ups or better still by follow-up audits using the team of internal auditors which I am sure you must have constituted across your company's world-wide network.
You may even use outside support such as mentioned by Greg (for which I may be available as well ;) ).

A comment here. Any CAPA committed, reviewed in the management review, specific responsibilities with a time frame allotted and temporary containment actions implemented is good enough a situation to face an audit. CAPA may be a long term affair and it is not possible in practical terms to have al CAPA closed with effectiveness varified at any given time.
One will then end up not being ready for his audit ever in his lifetime!:mg:
