View Full Version : Using the Cove for CPD (Continuing Professional Development) with RABQSA

I am submitting my current continuing professional development logs for Lead auditor certification and skill examiner certfication to the RABQSA. I have to say out of every class/seminar/workshop etc that I have attended over the years - this place has provided more development than any 8 hour class I have attended. I was wondering if anyone has ever used data from this site to satisfy the cpd requirement with RABQSA.

I have used the tool find all posts by: and printed copies to provide evidence of how long I have participated and the level at which I participate.

Anyone see any reason why this would not satisfy this requirement?

No measureables, I think. I know this was discussed in a thread with respect to getting the ASQ to accept participation here as credit for CEUs, if I remember correctly.

Yes, that is correct, and I was the one inquiring. It was Wes, I think, who got me in touch with THE person at ASQ, who turned me down, saying in effect that there was no way to measure one's involvement.

It did not occur to me then, but it seems that "thanks" and karma points would do this nicely - even better than a paper certificate for mere attendance. That might be worth a try. Say a person would have to accumulate so many "thanks" and karma points during the 3 years. Of course, then the ASQ (or, in this case, the RABQSA) would have to qualify which sites count. I think the day when this type of credit will count is coming. Hope so.

BTW, I was able to dig up enough credits from a forgotten seminar and some other places, so I did not have to take the exam again.

This is for RABQSA not ASQ Certification - I am able to pull a list of all threads/postings attached to my name - they indicate dates/times and show subject matter - I emailed the RABQSA contact - going to see what they say....

I agree in principle that "thanks" are a relatively good measure of participation (much better than a certificate for simply being physically present at many typical training sessions). However, it would also be easy to manipulate the system.

For instance, I could make a deal ;) with Craig that we would thank each other frequently, artificailly boosting our karmas. Heck, I could even re-register under various names and thank myself!:notme: It would take an awfully sharp certification examiner to spot such trickery.

I think I disagree with you guys on this - just because someone thanks you does not measure your involvement - I think the number of times you post and the content of your postings would be the way to go. Am I missing something?

For some other thoughts: Continuing Professional Development - CPD for ISO 9000/14000 RAB Auditors? (http://elsmar.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=3045)

My old Boss used to scramble at the last minute to get in her credits...It usually came to spending a few grand going to a 3 day seminar or creating a creating a fictitous seminar and having all of our local ASQ folks sign the roster...or maybe that was for ASQ's CQE I think she used them for both! :bonk:

As info, I received a response from my RABQSA Contact this morning regarding using the Cove to satisfy the CPD requirements for certification.

Good news....read response below

I have a few questions about CPD.

Does Skill Examination Certification qualify as CPD? You can use your SE training module that you completed for Skill Examiner certification for 2 hours of CPD.

I participate in an Online Quality forum regularly - I can print a screen that shows how many times I have posted, visited, and joined - does this qualify? Yes, this can be counted and listed under Activity Code #3 on the CPD form.

If I have created training modules and adminstered training for inhouse processes does this qualify? – Yes, this can be counted and listed under Activity Code #1 on the CPD form.

Now if only ASQ would follow suit, a bunch of people here wouldn't have to worry about recertification. :agree1:

At this point, ASQ does not even give out recertification units for its OWN discussion boards. The one thing that might count is posting a paper here in the reading room. There MAY be an argument that this could count as publishing a paper, though I don't know if that would fly since anyone could post anything and claim credit.

One thing to do about publishing though is to submit an article to your local Section. If your Section won't publish it, mine will! I'm always on the prowl for newsletter content. . . .

Somehow I suspect that the active folks here don't have much trouble accumulating RU's in other areas. I could probably come up with 100 RU's every 3 years!
