Hello:

Since I have only been in the Aerospace Industry for 3 years, and I need to pursue my Lead Auditor certification, I am trying to find sources for the Aerospace Industry Competency Course. It needs to meet the requirements of the AIR5493 and AS9014, section 7.2.2.1.

In my search of the great world wide web, I can only find one company (SAI Global) that provides the training. Does anyone know of any other sources out there? Or can anyone give me input on training they have attended through SAI Global?

Thank you,

Rebecca

I went to the RABQSA website (http://www.rabqsa.com/rab/cpDirectorySearch.do?action=showSearchForm) and searched for the type of training you are looking for and came up with two entries. Excel is part of the SAI Group. Hope this helps.

Thank you, that does help.

I don't suppose you know the answer to this next question, then?

Am I reading the requirements correctly, that a person must be a certified ISO 9001:2000 QMS Lead Auditor? Or basically, to become a Lead Auditor in Aerospace, exactly what DO I need to do?

I do not want to spend money on one class, and then find out I needed to take steps 1, 2, and 3 before I took the class.

Thanks!

Rebecca

Please check the RABQSA Aerospace Auditor requirements at http://www.rabqsa.com/qb_as9100.html and download the Aerospace AS9100 Criteria & Guidance (http://www.rabqsa.com/docs/downloads/PCD37.pdf)

You should call them with your questions. They will be happy to (try to) explain to you the path(s) available.

I just returned from the SAI Global AS9100 Lead Auditor class. It is certified by the RABQSA. To my knowledge there is no requirement to be a lead auditor in ISO 9001:2000 prior to taking the class, although it would certainly be an advantage as the AS9100 is based on and includes ISO9100:2000. There were a number of participants in the class who had done some internal audits and some with no audit experience at all. I think I was the only certified auditor in the class.

I would highly recommend the SAI class. Feel free to call either Joe DeCarlo, Vice President or Ben Tuley, Senior Consultant with any questions. Their toll free number is 1-800-374-3818. You are free to tell them Dave Scott recommended them if you think it will do any good.

Thanks Dave!

I feel better asking my company to spend money when I get recommendations.

I think my confusion comes/came from some of the trainer sites that are listing requirements that I am not seeing on the RABQSA, and I want to make sure I am not mis-interpreting anything.

I have a lot of auditing experience, even in the AS1900 standard, but I want to become "official". In the hopes it will make my job easier, or at least give me more ammunition during management discussions and decisions. (I know, wishful thinking, but one has to dream!)

Thanks again,

Rebecca

You're welcome. This course will certainly make you "official" if you pass the test at the end. They will provide the information you need to become an AEA (RABQSA Certified Aerospace Experience Auditor) - You can check the requirements at www.rabqsa.com

The course I took is a 5 day and meets the full requirements of SAE AIR5493, SAE AIR5359, section 7.2 and AS9104, section 7.2.

I don't think it is wishful thinking. I know it is making my job easier and it add another qualification to my resume for when I retire.

Good luck.

Dave
