Morning all... I have searched the Cove forums and have found nothing to answer my question here. What is "Pass through characteristics'? I am going through our Q1 Self Assesment for Ford (my first time) and am unsure how to answer questions on the above. Can anyone clarify exactly what this means?
Q1:
II.1.5
Where pass-through characteristics are required, supplier requires sub-suppliers to take specific actions to ensure that all pass-through characteristics are to customer specifications.
Thanks in advance for your help.:)

There is a great thread on this already in here on the Cove.
I am not sure how to link it, so maybe some of the expert users can help with that

Pass-through characteristics are those characteristics produced by outside suppliers (i.e., Tier 1 or Tier 2) which are transparent to the customer’s plant processes and controls. As such, quality defects in these characteristics risk being "passed through" to the OEM’s final customer(s).
An example of this is a threaded hole that is not used in assembly at the OEM's process. A quality defect in this characteristic would be at risk of being "passed through" to final customer(s). (Licence plate holder)
Hope this helps

Pending the link, the short answer is, a pass-through characteristic is a part feature (dimensional or other) which YOU are responsible for, but which has no affect on your immediate customer. For example, a pierced hole in a mounting bracket; my next customer applies a friction compound to the opposite surface of the part, but does not use the hole. It is THEN used by the subsequent customer to mount the bracket. Thus, a pass-thru characteristic.

I'm not sure what to say. I just did a search for 'Pass Through Characteristics' and the thread linked to above showed up. A search for 'Pass Through Characteristic' yeilds a lot of threads.
If all else fails, try the Google Search box on the forum Search page.
