It depends on who is using the terms, but here are some considerations:

- Key product characteristics are those that are most likely to impact customer satisfaction
- Critical (product) characteristics are those that are not only likely to impact satisfaction, but perhaps also safety, environmental, etc.
- Critical characteristics could also apply to process parameters which can have a strong impact on important product characteristics

Can anybody define what is the difference between Key Product characteristics (KPC) and Critical Characteristics (CC)? It depends on the context. For example, in the Aerospace Supply Chain, the term key characteristic is used. AS9100 B defines

Key Characteristics: The features of a material, process, or part whose variation has a significant influence on product fit, performance, service life, or manufacturability.

In the Automotive Supply Chain, TS 16949:2002 defines special characteristic as product characteristic or manufacturing process parameter which can affect safety or compliance with regulations, fit, function, performance or subsequent processing of product.
