Yesterday I bought one of those inflatable Christmas snow globes that you put on your lawn. I brought it home, opened it up, and proceeded to make the mistake of following the instructions in setting it up. (I'm doing this stuff a little early this year to take advantage of unseasonably warm temperatures here in the upper Midwest.)
Attached is a copy of the instruction sheet. You'll notice that before step 5, you have to reach inside the deflated globe and do some stuff, then zip up the opening in step 5. Step 6, however, calls for extending a tube inside the globe, which of course can't be done if you've done step 5 and closed up the only access. I might have noticed the error if I'd read through the instructions first, but I'm way too smart for that. :biglaugh:
There was a second, much larger, set of instructions in the box with the same error. I just wonder how this might have been affected by the fact that the manufacturer (and printer) is in China, and perhaps no one noticed because of language issues.

Interesting problem I have never thought about it... :bigwave:
I have translater friends who have responsability civil insurance for this kind of fact.
The conpany and the Translator have subsidiary responsability, that is the fault is from the Manufacturer but he can ask for civil responsability for the Translator (I do not know penal and Administrative, if the Translator is in charge. I think only the Manufacturer).
So my advise is the Manufacturer ask the translator for a Civil insurance and sign a Contract of Services to decline penal and Administrative responsability.
Regards.

I think it was 5th or 6th grade where a teacher gave us all a 'test'. She said "Read through all of the instructions and the test before you start this test to make sure you understand everything." To make it worse, the first sentence on the 'test' was something like "Read through all of the instructions and the test before you start this test to make sure you understand everything." The last line in the instructions at the beginning of the test read something like "It is not necessary to do this test. Put your pencil down and relax. Please do not giggle or laugh if you do read through the rest of the test." In the middle of the 'test' there were comments sprinkled through such as "When you reach this point in the test, raise your hand and say 'Half way through' and then continue with the test", and a couple other silly things. I admit I didn't read all the instructions. Almost all of us showed the few who did read the instructions first that we were - Well, we weren't going to follow instructions.

At least your inflatable thing worked. I have bought a total of three of them, and two of them did not work out of the box.
My mom had bought me a Homer one at a garage sale about four years ago. I was the talk of the block, until it died.
I can't find a replacement anywhere. Doohh!
I'm getting old and humble enough to start reading directions. Most of them, however, I cannot even follow. Very important "little" things left out. I get frustrated and guess.

Actually, the thing was a dud anyway; it wouldn't inflate completely.

Reminds me of my favorite set of instructions.
Came with a push button phone
TO OPERATE:
1) LIFT RECEIVER
2) DIAL NUMBER
3) WHEN FINISHED, HANG UP.
First, if I had used a phone before I wouldn't need these instructions.
Second, If I haven't used a phone before these instructions would never work.
I've used this many times in training classes.
