Hi All,

I had been assigned a project to initiate a Quality Assurance program in a Public Transit Maintenance department. We currently we have in place numerous processes to check and control the quality of product and services that we deliver, these processes form the part of Quality Control aspect of our operations. What we are missing is a Quality Assurance aspect which could ensure that all the QC activities are effectively managed, performed, recorded and improved. We dont need any ISO kind of registration so it will be like indigenous system just for our own application. What I need is a step by step overview of how this can be done?

I have come up with my own but since quality is new for me I really don’t know if I am on the right track

• Establish Objective and goal of this program
• Define scope i.e. how complex and in-depth it will be
• List all current activities i.e. Administrative, Operation, Production Control, Facilities, safety etc.
• Identify critical and non critical activities. This will help in establishing the scope of the program based on the resources available.
• Develop and document SOP i.e. “How we do” for activities that will be monitored under the QA program
• Assign roles and responsibilities i.e. “Who will do what”.
• Develop QA activities and assign roles and responsibilities…….

I don’t want to get carried away so need help of how to proceed.

Will appreciate help in this regards

Thanks

Sher

Hi, and welcome to the Cove!

While I am by no means involved with transportation shops, might I suggest that you use the ISO 9001 standard as a beginning framework, even if you do not want to be certified? It might be worth a look....

Agree with Craig, you may use the ISO 9001 as a model to make your project successful. Step by step activities list down in the gantt chart or milestone. Form a team by using forming, storming, norming and performing model in this project. Other new QM tools like arfinity diagram, interrelationship diagram, tree diagram, prioritization matries, matrix diagram, process decision program chart and activity network diagram to be used to make your whole project more systematic and effective. Good Luck!;)
