Just curious, what you people in the metal stamping industry monitor using SPC?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

The big 3 usually supply the data for SPC checks they require. It includes points to show process control in all axes. This is usually done using surface point checks and/or hole locations.

It is pretty much dependent on the type of stamping we're talking about (I'm guessing automotive, but might be off here).

For example, panels like hoods, door outers etc are usually spc'd for gap/flush conditions. Other types of stamping might be dimensional relating to go/not go features or post stamping related features, like bends etc. What are you processing?

When you're dealing with hard tooling such as stamping and casting dies, the key is to understand the variables that can lead to trouble, and the ones that are not likely to change significantly. In stamping, I've found it helpful to talk to diemakers and press operators and find out what sorts of things they might be concerned with, and how variables such as wear can affect output. In general, it's best to use SPC to control the process--to understand the variation inherent in the system--and then take measures to mitigate.

Also hole sizes and locations that pin on a gage or check fixture, and visual for splits or cracks. You could use attribute SPC for these. Or variable if measure the hole sizes and locations.
