Hi,

I just started a course and beginning to use Murdoch and Barns book on Statistical Tables. Does anyone know how to use Table 35 and 36 on pages 52 & 53.

The book is the standard text for the IQA Diploma D1 exam. Example

Table 35 Derivation of Single Sampling Plans

c alpha = 0.05/ Beta = 0.10

0 44.890
1 10.946
2 6.509
3 4.890

Table 36 Constuction of OC Curves for Single Sampling Plans

P(A) 0.995 0.990
C=0 0.005 0.010
c=1 0.103 0.149

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

Paul,

It may be that no one here has that particular book. Perhaps if you could describe the tables, someone might have some ideas.

It looks like these are tabulations of probabilities for various circumstances. Without knowing just how much you know (and also not having the booK) it is difficult know just what to say.

One think you might find useful is a spreadsheet I post a while back. I allows you to adjust alpha, beta, etc and then it calculates odds and suggests appropriate plans. The lower part of the page shows the calculations, so you might be able to adjust the spreadsheet to reproduce some number from the table. (the spreadsheet specifically uses the Binomial distribution - one an only one defect allowed per piece).

I dont have a copy of the book either, bu my best guess is that you are referring to a Binomial Nomogram?
