Get a Sneak Peek at the ISO 9000 Revisions

ASQ is the only organization in the United States allowed to provide the committee drafts of the revisions to the ISO 9001 and 9004 standards to the public. These documents are drafts for review only and are not intended to be used for quality system design purposes. The documents are being made available in order to obtain input from the public to help determine if the standards are on target with user needs. Learn more at

Yes - Thanks! As a quick summary for here: NSI/ISO CD1 9001:2009 , ANSI/ISO CD1 9004:2009: Committee Drafts of ISO 9001 and 9004:2009 (free of charge)

Document not yet available - tentatively available February 16, 2007. Please check back for updates.

The ISO 9000:2000 family of quality management system standards is being updated with an anticipated final release date in 2009. The updated standards (ISO 9001 and ISO 9004) are being released as committee drafts and are drafts for review. The two documents are not intended to be used for quality system design purposes. As committee drafts, the two standards are offered for public review and comment only.

For ISO 9001, the requirements standard, the plan is to produce minor changes for clarification and compatibility with ISO 14001. The changes planned will be minor, however, even small changes to the standard can dramatically impact a users QMS.

For ISO 9004, the guidelines document, the plan is to produce a major revision with its focus on providing guidance on organizational sustainability rather than performance improvement.

ASQ, in conjunction with international standards developers, are making these committee drafts available at this early stage in their development in an effort to determine if the direction of the two standards is on target with user needs. Directions for users to follow in providing comments to the standards developers are included within the electronic document. All public comments need to be submitted before March 31, 2007.

Future drafts of the ISO 9001 and 9004 standards will be released in the coming months.

Tentatively available February 16, 2007.
