View Full Version : Closed or Resolved: Trouble Uploading Image Files as Post Attachments

Is it just me? I was trying to upload some image files with a post, but I can't seem to make it work! I get to the upload page, select the files, and click Upload. After a few moments, the little pop-up window goes blank without any clear message that the files have loaded. And I don't see the images with the message after I post.

Am I missing something obvious???

How big are the files and what type of files are they?

Technically if the upload fails you should get a notice and reason why the upload failed. The box should not disappear.

The pictures are relatively small (60K) JPG files. I even tried converting to GIF. After clicking "Upload", the very bottom boarder of the pop-up screen says "Waiting for elsmar.com...". After a few seconds, the whole pop-up goes white and the bottom boarder says "done".

But I don't get any message that the upload was successful - or a failure for that matter.

I just tried it again with this message, but I don't think it is working here, either ...

Tim,

I have had that problem before. However, it was due to Marc's comment in that the file was too large. So, obviously not a problem in your case.

One time... I thought I had the same problem. However, it was loading so quickly that I did not even notice.

Check your PM (Personal Message) Inbox. I PMed you my email address. Send me the files to look at.

1. What browser are you using?
2. I assume you're on your home computer?
3. What OS?
4. Is Javascript enabled on your browser?

I got the files and checked them. It appears the image dimensions of 3 of them were too big (1546 x 1160). I fixed them all and emailed them back to you. You should be able to upload them now. Let me know if they won't upload.

Technically you should have gotten a reason for failure notice, but the same thing happened to me - no notice. I'll have to look at why.

If you're using Win XP, you can use Microsoft's free image resizer to reduce the size of images for e-mail or uploading to forums. It's part of the XP PowerToys (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx) package, but can be downloaded separately. There are also versions for earlier Windows versions; you can look here (http://www.aumha.org/a/powertoy.php) for more information.

Thanks for the help! I didn't think about the image itself being too big. I think that the free photo editor in Windows will also resize pictures. In any case, no I know to check the image size as well as the file size!

Well, in fact the usable image on each page wasn't too big. The three graphics that were too big had a little graph on a very big otherwise blank page. Technically I cropped the images on the pages which cut off all the white area surrounding the image and saved the file.
