View Full Version : Customer is requesting Variable Data for Attribute Gages in Gage R&R

We have a customer who is requesting we enter variable data for Calibration and Gage R&R studies on attribute gages.
I can understand the Calibration (that does make sense - and that is they it is currently done); entering variable data on R&R for attribute gages has me stumped.
The customer is saying it is a requirement per the AIAG manual (I can't find it - nor can he provide the page or even the manual section) and also a Chrysler requirement (again, I can't find it, neither will the customer provide any more data).
Can anyone shed light on this for me, I'm lost....

The customer MAY be asking that you provide a variable measurement of the actual parts used to perform the attribute gage study. This would allow them to assess whether you used parts that were slightly in/out of specification versus clearly good/bad parts.

That makes much more sense. I think they are "pushing down' a requirement without full understanding of what they are asking.

To add to what Miner said...

1. In order to decide the "Reference Decision" in Kappa analysis (Crosstab with REF), you will have to use variable measurement of the parts to determine if this part should PASS or FAIL.

2. If you have the MSA manual, please also check out the signal detection method (just after kappa, page 130 something...). In order to calculate the width of the "gray zones" at both limits, you are required to use variable measurements for parts that you inspect with attribute gage.

3.You'd also need variable measurements of parts for Analytic study and to plot a Gage Performance Curve.

GM askes for variable GR&R done on all 3 directions (F/A, C/C, and U/D). You'd better check with your customer.

Good Luck!
