View Full Version : Different Quality Standards - UK & China - Are China standards higher?

Hi

I am particularly interested to put this subject for generally opinions from other sectors of industry. U see, I am working in China manufacturing product for all the big boys like HP, DELL, NOKIA, MOTOROLA, SONY etc...
We have plant in States, UK & China. But it seems that I am getting the effect that those product quality demand that is manufactured in China - is more stricter than my couterpart.
I lobbying that there is a fear syndrome here (in China) that the product quality demand is somehow erractic - I termed it as over-inspection. Probably, company investing in China - may feel that they can afford 101% inspection check by having some internal rules to "force" & "demand" China worker that if any inspection is not done probably - they are force out. (assumption).
Or perhaps, there is this fear factor existing due to lack of production knowledge or training.

My Colleagues in UK - when visiting our China plant was shocked to find that -although we are supplying to same Customer but different location - the quality expectation is over what is required by the Customer's Standard. We are rejecting product which can be accepted by our overseas same Customer.

Some of our product need to supply to our OEM to sub-assembly - and they have their added inspection standard even though the end customer do not require that strict control.
Till now, we are facing many of this issue - that talking to the sub-con - does not yield any improvment. Though we reminded them that the end Customer did control that strict or some area do not demand a check - it does not help.
To all out there - expat working in China, does anyone have that experience. Hope you can share here.

Thanks.

I'm not sure would need more information like what is the defect rate of parts from China ??

If they are high the companies may feel that paying more for QC is more important so they have less defective parts being assembled and being put into products which may cause problems for them in the future (warrentee repair, safety issues etc).
