I am looking for some ideas on creating a CI for the CI Process.
We use an electronic system and get good support from the staff.
Also what measurables are people using to track CI Performance?
(We use Dollars saved and # of projects on goal)
Thanks for your help.
Jason.

Hello Jrich !
I would suggest you first to scroll down to the bottom of the page and read "Similar threads".
Maybe you find some answers to your question, alredy posted.
Some quastions:
1)Could you describe your actual CI process, helping us in not to post long answers which you have alrady implemented and works.
2) What you want to improve, or what is your problem wit your actual process?
3) Dis you asked your colleges ?
4) Do you know well enough your process ?
5) Your performance measurables, are valid after 6 months ? I have seen several times that the follow up process doesn't works quite well, and after a few months everíthing goes back to where it was.
6) Is your process effective ? How many times you improve the same problem ?
Just some thoughts to keep the thread alive. Sorry for my English.:)

Jason:
Is there some background you'd share with us? This seems to me to be a strange question - how to improve the improvement process????
I'm sure it's possible, but what got you to post the question?

I think it is a fair question. If CI is defined as a supporting process in your system, then you should define criteria for effectiveness, measure them, and seek improvements, jsut like any other process.
I often see the following:
Amount of savings - $$
Number of projects
Number of suggestions per employee
% of employees participating (are all the suggesting coming from 10 very active people, or is the whole crew participating).
Number of suggestions actually deemed viable.
This may be a good starting point. If you understand what you want to achieve, it will tell you what you should measure.

The reason I have posted the question is because CI is a defined process in our system and therefore requires Improvement as per 4.1. I appreciate the feedback so far. I think for my next activity I will implement the Sugeestion system to all associates. Once this is done, I am not sure where to go next.
Thanks again for the help and I appreciate seeing what else is being done. I don't like to invent the wheel all of the time especially when I know there are ones on the road.

Well, if you've nothing better to improve........My guess is there's a whole lot of other things you could have your organization work on improving - before you get around to improving improvement. Unless, that is, your improvement methods aren't actually working.........

If you are the process owner of CI, you have the same expectations as any othe rprocess. If the CI process is robust, it will have better results. If it is not robust, improve it.
Same principle can apply to any and all processes. You rank the priority to suit your needs.

Just one suggestion. Decide what you want to achive by continuous improvement process. Zero down on ONE measurable. Use it. Multiple measurables have conflicting requirements and tend to land the whole process in a mess.
Just for example, I could give you a huge saving with a delayed project involving two people. I could also give you a meagre saving with 100 ontime projects with 1000 people involved.
So what do you exactly want? Timely completion? $ saving? involvement? ...... or something else?
People also use production, productivity, m/c downtime, m/c uptime, sales, inventory, wip, profit, added profit, margin, ... and so many other things.
Its finally what YOU want that matters.
